SPOILERS BEWARE Strap in as this is gonna be a pretty unique review so where do I begin? Maybe with the first opening sequence the first 90 seconds of this anime arent even the actual show and I was already wondering what the fuk have I gotten myself into this playdoh animation with various shapes and objects has got to be the most questionable opening sequence I have ever seen in an anime and there is nothing that comes even remotely close to what I would remember as being weird and odd Honey and Clover opening sequence is definitely the strangest and most random sequence that I have ever seen in all my years of anime and the scariest part about this opening sequence is that the song actually matches to it after you watch it enough timeslike WHAT Am I finally understanding the meaning that the writers were going for when they animated this? The song is by Yuki who at this point I love her voice is always packed with so much emotion since I was first introduced to her from 3gatsu where she did the first OP of the 2nd season there is a distinct difference between this younger Yuki and the older Yuki a decade later but still she sounds gorgeous here. While Im at it I might as well comment on the second opening sequence and although this one is waaaay more normal its still different from a traditional sequence you would find in an anime this one feels real and the bike we see is the nail in the coffin that seals it for me needless to say both opening sequences are great nowyes even the first one since it genuinely grows on you after you watch it enough times. Well while Im on the topic of OST I might as well cover the fact that this anime uses 14 insert songs WHAT Somehow nearly all of them are amazing too granted most of them are sung by two artists but some of them are really damn amazing in emphasizing the episode while youre watching and even though you only hear them once many have already stuck with me for example Sakana from the 10th episode is probably my favorite insert song of the season but all of them are genuinely amazing and really emphasise the scene as you watch them. Well that covers the OST for this anime for the most part but overall its a masterpiece and easily one of the best composed OST in an anime. Now starting with the actual review of the anime it felt similar to 3gatsu at times and well the only reason I became aware of Honey and Clover is because of that anime so it makes sense that I get similar vibes here also if you look closely enough at Hagu then you can see similarities to Hina in her at least I did also the fact Hagu is supposedly 18 years old at the start of the show yet looks no more than 6 and even though Yuuta fell in love at first sight it may seem like she is a loli but according to her birth certificate she is legal so you know what that means fellersanyway this series has a real nice charm to it and a character like Morita instantly reminds me of Sunohara from Clannad the stupid yet clever at the same time character was truly a treat to watch throughout the whole show. In fact all the characters really grow throughout and you start becoming seriously attached to them. The final arc of this season which was Yuuta going on a journey to find himself gave him so much character development that he needed and when he returned his attitude was completely different to the point he even confessed without fearing whether his feelings would be reciprocated or not its all better that she knows and he tries than neither trying nor letting her know always act because you may regret it down the line. It took Yuuta the entire season to confess but he wasnt the only one fighting for the love of his/her life Ayumi has been doing it very vocally for the majority of the season still to no prevail and once again this anime starts portraying reality since no matter how much you love someone it may not be enough to sway their feelings towards you and the characters in this show learn that the very hard and brutal way. Its another realistic slice of life anime that I very much enjoyed at first it seemed all over the place but with time you seriously start approaching this work of art since it becomes so enjoyable around the middle of the season I was really captivated by the episodes and once more my time was disappearing so fast the greatest thing here is that I know there are still 13 more episodes for me to experience in the following sequel and I am very hyped and curious to see how this story concludes since we still have Hagu and Moritas unsolved feelings as well as Rikas partly complex feelings so still plenty can happen in the sequel I feel like. In the end I dont quite know if this is because its old writing but the story feels so genuine and is choreographed beautifully throughout with the use of amazing OST which really help cement this show as truly a gem its a gem from 2005 so without 3gatsu I probably would have never stumbled upon this great story and what Ive seen so far may very well only be the beginning as same happened with 3gatsu the first season was really enjoyable but nothing out of the ordinary then we reached the sequel and well.so I have high hopes for the sequel of Honey and Clover to at least try to match the standards that the 2nd season of 3gatsu produced. At this point I am very much immersed in this series and of course I would recommend it since it reminds me of 3gatsu and that anime is simply a modern masterpiece that has to be watched. Onwards to the sequel now.
