Before I even watched this my friend Sam told me that this show was more psychological and relative to the other modern shows that I would refer to as psychological I had some expectations and potential social queues or circumstances that might appear in the anime. Or just use some the prior I had received from other sources. Essentially general knowledge. I think now looking back. I can say this show at first did have the clique characters like the Tsundere character archetype. But instantly the show breaks it by having have the main character Kanami instantly identifying it lmfaoo. Looking back on it now I dont think Ive truly paid attention to this show until the flashback arc with Kanamis sister Kuzuki. Not only did it made me realize that the show was presenting how the MC goes about resolving the conflict to show how he is but it also exemplifies just how much the past can have control over one. The instance where Michirus friend also inhabits her body allowed the viewers like me to think of how this can be interpreted or what was the writer going for when they established this. I think its the very calling towards psychological concepts such as Survivors Guilt which was demonstrated with Ayane Suous dillemma with trying to get with Kanami despite everyone around her in the earlier day blaming her for the death of class even though they were the only one that brought there own demise. Another instance could the need for a parental figure like Irina Makinas case. It doesnt necessarily have to be so deep that it mind boggles one but its fairly certain that each of these characters circumstances presented stresses the theme of psychology and certain philosophic mindsets. Theres rather an extreme for some of these concepts. It wasnt until episode 12 of the Season 1 where I got the magnitude that this shows writer was willing to go. Im not that well tuned in terms of expressing things in a coherent nor do I care to type shit but I will say this for 100 percent. This probably was the rising climax of the show and its entirety. Episode 12 showed me something that I think underestimated the show for and I mentioned it above. How far it was willing to go. After the Yumiko incident it didnt really phase me that much but after seeing.. some scenes.. it became clear just how capable it was willing to go. Overall it was sad disturbing and shell shocking. In particular Kuzuki will or should realists perspective on the situations. She never truly faltered like the other students but the argument could be made that she was lucky enough to have ONLY a damaged arm which allowed her to not just help people but continuing moving foward despite the circumstances. For example when Aris dog died she focused soley on survival but didnt disregard the classmates feeling about the situation. This mightve been a display of stoicism. One cant help but be entertained by such a character. The closest respectable words I can express about her is: Loveable. Not charismatic but certaintly an interesting character. If it wasnt for her being present with Ayane. The tone and narrative of the show mightve taken a lesser intensity. But its very fact that Kuzukis character being as such never truly wavered in the end especially as she sacrificed herself for Ayane. Similar to how Yuuji did so much for Irina and to go as far to kill again for. It was established that he was pragmatic character with certain set of moral compass but its the fact that he didnt waver as such that present this message of What does it take to for a person to act in a certain manner. Kuzuki and Yuuji where main proprietors to showing this theme. The flashback arc SHOWED it regardless. Keeping that in mind I will say that relative to the type of character you see in most animes most of the characters are from one dimensional. Its very interesting seeing this characters who come from different experiences interact from each other. As a first time watcher though I unfortunately underestimated the very impact that Yuuji has on the cast. He isnt necessarily a hero or someone conventional by society standards in regards to manners or common courtesy. The environment that he is in isnt normal nor full of people that arent normal. So in the sense he gets everyone s attention towards him. He get their admiration. He gets their respect. He becomes friends with them as well. However from time to time though he does attain those in very funny ways. Through him we get to see these character from their lows to their highs. Anime is a solid 9.1/10 in my book. P.S. You mother fuckers smell.
