SPOILERS BEWARE Eva 2.0 is the 2nd movie of the new rebranded retelling of Neon Genesis Evangelion and although it follows the plot from the original for the most part there are some noticeable differences which I wanted to touch on and give my thoughts. Straight from the getgo we see a new character that never appeared in the original Eva called Mari she pilots Eva unit 05 I believe and quite distinctly speaks English I always find it amusing to hear English dubbing in an anime since to me it feels normal but when Im watching everything in sub and suddenly I hear dub it feels really weird still got to give credit for the Japanese VAs for nailing these accents somewhat well. Besides this appearance she makes a quick cameo again later in the movie for a brief bit of fanservice to Shinji only to disappear again till the very end of the movie where she awakens the beast within Eva unit 02. A very noticeable difference here is that the pilot of Eva unit 03 that goes berserk is Asuka compared to being Touji in the original series the outcome is still the same so I cant really answer as to why Asuka replaced Touji perhaps to give her a more significant role since the expedition of retrieving a live angel in the lava was omitted from this movie? In the end the outcome was the same as the dummy plug was used to defeat the faulty Eva unit. My next point will take me to two insert songs first one titled Kyou no Hi wa Sayounara that starts playing once the dummy plug activates and starts tearing Eva unit 03 to shreds at this point I have come to acknowledge that playing happy cheery songs amidst brutality is something Eva excels at as for an added bonus I knew I heard this song somewhere After a little bit of digging its also used at the end of the school graduation ceremony in Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo but I wont mention any more details since those are spoilers for an entire different anime. This song certainly does sound like a graduation song though huh? If that wasnt enough then we get a 2nd insert song right at the end of the movie titled Tsubasa wo Kudasai and same story goes if its Eva then us fans can picture the scenes very vividly in our minds. Those final moments of the movie with Shinji saving Rei are simply beautiful accompanied by a stunning soundtrack and fabulous animation. This scene right here is Eva at its absolute best its going to take something stellar to usurp the ending to End of Eva but this certainly has some similarities and I can safely say I loved this ending. I like Rei a lot so seeing such interactions between her and Shinji were heartwarming and that final embrace is simply gorgeous. 800https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/670745625670713353/892091999673524224/unknown.png My final note takes me to the post credit scene in this remake it seems Kaworu isnt dead as he makes an appearance right at the end halting Eva unit 01 who seemed like had turned into God itself after awakening and absorbing the angel into itself. Whats more interesting is he gets his own Eva unit 06 to pilot here as well. This is a pretty stunning cliffhanger and I am overjoyed with hype as now a new chapter in Eva begins around this point in time is where the original series concluded but now I still have two final movies to see how this remake of Eva will conclude. Definitely hyped to jump right into it.
