SPOILERS BEWARE It goes without saying but when it comes to HOTD the viewer will likely enjoy or hate it and probably nothing in between. There are two traits which the anime follows through right to the end those being its fascinating action packed scenes and constant fanservice which is offered. If the viewer doesnt enjoy ecchi and fanservice then its not even worth watching the first episode as there is plentiful of this here. It starts tame but only increases later in the show so if the viewer cant cope with a little then they will definitely hate the 6th episode which shows off the girls having fun with each other in the bath and such. 800https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/635602177833959439/947501050317918209/unknown.png This is an anime that doesnt take itself too seriously and lays out the plot very vividly by the end of the first episode. The show is titled Highschool of the Dead which it initially starts off as but then quickly escalates to country of the dead and then might as well claim world of the dead since this zombie turning virus has managed to turn the world on its head within a span of a day. Ive seen this show twice now and both times I watched it all in a day since it captivates me its nothing serious but a really fun enjoyable short anime if you have the time for it and arent looking for anything too major and plot heavy. 800https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/635602177833959439/947502116803600424/unknown.png The cast of the show isnt anything exactly special as I mentioned since the show doesnt take itself too seriously but its not an annoying dislikeable bunch. The MC Takashi is a breath of fresh air since hes not oblivious to the harem that is unfolding besides his eyes as most other harem anime MCs would be. Rei happens to be his childhood crush who he probably still has feelings for nowadays as he did seem pretty gloomy at the beginning of the show almost like he was reminiscing on the past. Since the show is short I dont really have much else to say for Rei unfortunately she kind of just exists Im afraid. Saya is the tsundere of the group which is a trait Im not particularly fond of usually but I enjoy Sayas flustered cute side which is shown at times. She is also Takashis childhood friend whom she probably still has feelings for even today basing on the way she acts and cares for his safety. Again since the show is short we dont see enough of her to make a proper judgement on her character. 800https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/635602177833959439/947503304005525564/unknown.png The 7th episode introduces us to a new character Alice which is also where the show decides to turn into a drama for a brief moment which kinda works for me a little bit? Look it wasnt anything special but kids again prove to be my weakness. A crying child really gets my sympathy going for them and I definitely felt a bit of the feels here. This was about the only time Alice really got a chance to shine in the show though. 800https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/635602177833959439/947503931083333672/unknown.png Kouta is pretty standard sidekick character to Takashi but his character definitely grows with the show as he becomes more likeable to the point he actually has some pretty badass moments. Of course its the silent kid who is an absolute beast when it comes to guns and weapons and his survival capabilities during a zombie apocalypse. Its very cheesy but I wont dislike it for that. It only becomes more apparent as the show goes that he probably has feelings for Saya. Finally Shizuka the nurse of the school can very well be summarised with the below image. She exists for the sole reason of fanservice as the author wrote her that way. She is a useless and defenceless piece of baggage that the main cast has to protect throughout the show. 800https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/635602177833959439/947490331404943451/unknown.png Lastly I have left my favorite character Saeko till the end. Do I even need to explain why she is best? The cold badass murderer is the highlight of this show for me. The 9th episode which offers brief backstory only strengthens my claim that Saeko is best girl of the anime. She gives off pretty strong kuudere vibes so its no surprise why I instantly found her appealing. On top of that this girl can really swing a sword to protect her man like holy damn I feel like I need a Saeko myself. 800https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/635602177833959439/947504607989469204/unknown.png I do want to mention the OST before I wrapup since its truly phenomenal. Starting with the OP which is coincidently called Highschool of the Dead is an absolute banger by the band Kishida Kyoudan the Akeboshi Rockets so if you enjoy this OP then I highly recommended checking out more of this bands songs since all are great. The vocals are stunning and the guitarists are absolute beasts. Moving on to the EDs this may be the only anime Ive found so far that uses a different ED song for each episode and again so many of these sound fantastic. Some of my favorites are Cold Bullet Blues from the 4th episode The Last Pain from the 10th and The Eternal Song from the 12th. I havent even mentioned the OST that plays during the show since thats also great and fitting for the action packed anime that HOTD is. Also all of the ED songs are by Maon Kurosaki so if you like her voice then youre likely to thoroughly enjoy this soundtrack. https://www..com/watch?v=Oq9RWFVQaBsabchannel=E5B2B8E794B0E69599E59BA326THEE6988EE6989FE383ADE382B1E38383E38384E585ACE5BC8F https://www..com/watch?v=88ttT72Ilhcabchannel=MaonKurosakiTopic https://www..com/watch?v=xmHNi6NFnRUabchannel=MaonKurosakiTopic https://www..com/watch?v=qAzUBbJWC8sabchannel=E9BB92E5B48EE79C9FE99FB3OfficialYouTubeChannel My closing notes on HOTD is that its an anime that is surprisingly fun and enjoyable if you can handle the ecchi fanservice present. This is a series that doesnt take itself seriously so neither should you as that its strongest point. Take HOTD at face value and dont think too much about it for the best experience. S1 leaves us with a cliffhanger for whats more to come but sadly the series has now been cancelled due to the writer passing so in all due respect no one wants to continue the series of a deceased writer. There are a few more chapters of the manga which were released onwards from what the anime adapted so I may choose to read those at some point. Finally HOTD will likely be a hit or miss for the viewer but in my case I enjoyed the short experience that it offered as it served as a great timer killer one evening.
