Hi. Welcome to my review of Shy. I need to start off by saying we need more superhero manga like this. It takes a lot from western superhero comics like the ones from Marvel and DC which Im all in for it. Now lets start actually talking about it. While it doesnt break new ground it still manages to deliver an enjoyable story thats way more like SpiderMan than it is like something like Boku no Hero or Tiger Bunny. I wont spoil the story here tho Ill just give the basics of what make the story and conflicts really work the way they do and that means talking about the best thing about Shy. Whats that? The titular hero Shy of course Now this is where it gets tricky because I normally REALLY dislike those Oh shes so shy and awkward thats so cute kind of anime girls Im looking at you Gundam Witch from Mercury. BUT This one is actually not trying to just be shy anime girl waifu as the title suggests her being shy is a very big part of her character. Her personality and shyness are actually very believable and relatable and that works so well with her being a superhero it creates a conflicting dynamic that serves as a base for her personal and superhero struggles. Youll totally feel for her trust me. And the other characters theyre real folks too both the other heroes and the villains each with their own quirks and stuff. Youll be like I know someone just like that But I wont spoil the side characters for you as part of the fun of this manga is seeing what kind of quirky character will show up at each point of the story Ill just say this: Pepesha is great I love Pepesha. Thumping and Kfufu are also great The artwork undeniably stands out as one of its major strengths featuring beautiful panels that capture the more heartfelt essence of the story creating those touching and emotionally resonant moments. So yea Shy aint reinventing the wheel but its got A LOT of heart. Its not about flashy superpowers and epic battles its more about the inner heroism the personal struggles and the everyday challenges. So if youre looking for something with that superhero feel but with a different twist for its protagonist Shy is a VERY good pick as long as you dont expect masterful complex writing for the story of course. Shy is a take on the genre thatll make you see superheroes in a whole new light that from what I know hasnt been done in any other superhero manga/anime. I think its a great hidden gem in the manga world and Im happy its getting an anime adaptation that I hope doesnt suck. End of review Thanks for reading and sorry if the review isnt up for this sites standards this is only my second review so Im still learning.
