Originally Reviewed on Serializd As I have mentioned several times in the past whenever it comes to anything whether it be movies video games TV show or otherwise I usually never lean towards anything solely revolving around romance. Sure I dont mind when any of those things have romance in them because if it is handled well it could potentially turn into one of the best parts of those pieces of media but if something is focused solely on romance then I usually immediately steer away from that most of the time. The same also applies to whatever anime I typically watch and I feel like I have a more strict rule involving that regarding anime more then anything else. I am well aware of some of the weird shit that shows in this genre like to do when it comes to romance especially with more sexuallyexplicit content so I figured it would be best to avoid most of these as much as possible. Then again that kind of attitude can lead to me being closeminded about a lot of things so I figured I would go ahead and try the romance side of anime out but of course since this is me were talking about I decided to go with one of the most obscure things I could possibly find and what I found.... has a lot of names but for the sake of consistency I am just going to refer to it as Glasses Girlfriends. For those that dont know this was an anthology OVA series that was made back in 2010 with it primarily focusing on several love story that typically revolve around the topic of...... glasses for some reason. From figuring out this was a thing I assumed that this would be just one huge gimmick series solely existing for the purpose of that title and what it could potentially mean for the rest of the show without actually providing anything fun or interesting and instead just giving us the typical romance shit we have seen time and time again. But nevertheless despite that and the fact that I dont wear glasses myself I decided to check out the show anyway and based on what I saw it was... alright. It isnt anything all too impressive or impactful with it being a cute enough series that would definitely entertain those who are more inclined to watch these kinds of shows but as for me aside from one or two episodes it wasnt really anything all that special. The stories for the most part are what you can expect from this type of show with it all revolving around glasses in one way or another which not only makes some episodes seem really stupid but it can also make other very enjoyable as well with how they integrate them into the plot the characters are all as compelling as a plank of wood each one not getting nearly enough development or screentime for me to really care about any of them but to be fair not too many of them managed to get on my nerves and they were fun enough to watch so it was fine the voice acting is... decent I think even though I cant really judge it for myself since it was all in Japanese but at least I wasnt annoyed by any of the performances the animation is alright with it being what you would expect from the genre but nothing looks janky out of place or just outright bad so I cant criticize it too much and given how each episode is only 10 minutes long it does make it so that you wont be bored throughout most of it or feel like your time is being wasted making for a quick and easy watch all around. If I had to choose between the four my favorite episode of the series would definitely have to be Episode 2 which involves the girl of that episode basically being the Japanese version of Hannah Montana living a double life while also going on this date with this guy who somehow doesnt recognize her as the pop star she is throughout the entire thing even with how many times she tries to show him who she is. It is a cute enough story and one that did get plenty of laughs out of me especially with how oblivious the guy was to everything going on. What can I say Im a simple man and simple jokes like that get me. However without a doubt my least favorite episode would be Episode 4 which involves the typical guy and girl being childhood friends but not anymore because maturity and now they have to be together because the plot said so cliche. It plays out almost exactly as you would expect and while I wouldnt normally be too bothered by it in any other case the reason why I am bothered about it here is that it doesnt even feel like they actually properly finish the storyline Spoilers or whatever but it ends with the guy confronting the girl about why she is being so distant and wanting to forget about her past or whatever and the two end up holding hands through this exchange they talk about it while feeling awkward and......... it just ends there. I wouldnt necessarily say it is a bad ending but again it just feels incomplete like this would typically be something that happens at the middle of one of these stories but because of the 10 minute runtime they had to wrap things up before the story itself could wrap things up. Then again though this is only just for one episode as everything else was still alright to watch so it isnt too much of a complaint. Overall despite one dud episode of the bunch this was still a simple yet enjoyable little series one that provides plenty of decent enough stories that you can enjoy watching while also making sure not to include too much annoying shit to where you would want to shut the show off and move on with your day. I would recommend it for those that are fans of these kinds of shows as well as those who just want something quick and simple to watch because despite how stupid it can get especially with the whole glasses bit it is just entertaining enough to where you dont mind it too much at the end of the day. But hey how can I even say that at the end of the day when again I dont wear glasses? I dunno let me know down below if you wear glasses or not and if you do why Im a fucking idiot who wouldnt understand because my vision isnt fucked up like yours.
