In 1987 Togashi received the 34th Tezuka Award the most influential new comic artist award in Japan for his oneshot Buttobi Straight. Togashi is married to Naoko Takeuchihttps://anilist.co/staff/96946/ the creator of Sailor Moonhttps://anilist.co/manga/30092/SailorMoon/. His brother Hideaki Togashihttps://anilist.co/staff/174009/ is also a manga artist and has helped him work on his series on multiple occasions. Since 2006 Hunter x Hunter has gone on numerous lengthy hiatuses due to varying reasons Including but not limited to: Togashis struggle with Lumbago exhaustion and his mental health. His physical and mental health was also a leading cause in the premature conclusion of Yu Yu Hakusho.
