He studied technical design at Kyushu Sangyo University where he began to draw manga. Hojo is a mentor of Takehiko Inoue creator of Slam Dunk and a longtime friend of Tetsuo Hara creator of Fist of the North Star. Designed the character Reina who was introduced in the 2006 movie Hokuto no Ken: Ra Den Junai no Sh.
