The lead character in Tsumi To Batsu. As the manga is an adaptation of Dostoyevskys Crime and Punishment he is modeled on Rodion Romanovich Raskolnikov. Shown to be somewhat of a hikikomori at the start of the series he is later revealed to have been a student at an elite university in Tokyo and an aspiring writer with fairly good promise as evidenced by his nearsuccess at a contest hosted by a literary magazine. Apparently this rejection at the cusp of his break and the cynical reproach he got for his writing style serves as one of the baggage he is carrying around throughout the series. Deeply idealist he has the feeling that he is alone walking among the ruins of human civilization and all the buildings and cars and people bustling around trying to earn a living are still going on with their daily lives only due to inertia or because they arent initiated to the secret and magnificent collapse of humanity that only he witnesses.
