The hilarious meaning of "Laputa" in Spanish (and a bit of history)

Laputa la puta means the whore in Spanish. Thats all. . . . Well not really. I want to give you some funny info. There are three Spanish dubs of Castle in the Sky movie two from Spain and one from Latin America produced in Mexico. The reason behind having more than one dubbing per region is that Disney distributed Miyazakis films in Spanishspeaking countries and couldnt do it with THAT title so it was named El castillo en el cielo / Un castillo en el cielo instead of Laputa: El castillo en el cielo. The movie was dubbed according to that in Spain and the characters called the island Lapunto it still sounds funny because punto is Spanish for point or period but it isnt a coarse word anymore while the Mexican dub continued to call it Laputa. But time later the film was redubbed in Spain with supervision of Miyazaki himself to be more faithful to the original. : Almost all audiovisual productions TV series movies anime and more recently video games have two Spanish language dubs one from Spain and other from Latin America mostly Mexico and Venezuela because the two regions have very different dialects and cultures.
