That was a devastating chapter. Weve waited so long for Bels backstory to finally be revealed and it genuinely broke me. It seems to be one of the more divisive ones given the discussion that Ive seen both from west and Japan. Particularly around the blaming part and why things turned out this badly. I for one believe that even if Bel had told Onesta about him being a demon and their potential child ending up as Nephilim things would not have been much better either. It is a likely possibility of Luca being exorcised even faster or Bel sitting in that chair or Onesta not even marryiing him in the first place thus proving his point to Satan. Bel is a Lord of Sloth so perhaps the reason for his downfall was not being transparent enough or trying to do something about Nephilim instead of waiting years until things got out of hand. What this backstory shows to us readers and especially Imuri is that the world would not accept a Nephilim and that a love between human and demon may be impossible after all. Not only that but she is also deceiving Priest by hiding her intentions and who is to say things would not have ended up in a similar way? Few chapters prior she said she would smooch him over with love so that he could inevitably forgive her but is that really the proper path? The final act of this arc will determine Imuris character and I am extremely worried for our dear Priest. We still have 2 sins to take care of and Im genuinely terrified how the manga keeps getting more intense and nuanced the longer it goes. Each arc gets progressively better. God knows what will happen once Satan comes into the picture. Curious how Verge and Dante are doing down there.
