Racing Into The Night is Yoasabis most popular song to date and a force that is still continuing to thrive. 200 million views on millions of streams on Spotify hundreds of tiktoks of the song and the song lingering in the top 100 billboard charts for half a year still staying at 88 as of this week. Racing Into The Night is a monster of a japanese hit and has certified Yoasabi as not just one of the most popular Japanese artists in Japan but in the entire world. And the song is popular for good reasons too Racing Into The Night is a banger of a song. It is a bumpin pop song that has piano notes that hits deep in your bones not forgetting the guitar who keeps things continually going in the song. Yoasabi also gives a great performance with her harmonies making the chorus so infectious they can keep lingering in your head for weeks. It is a fun song that even if you cant understand what Yoasabi is saying you can still enjoy how much Yoasabi pours into making this song fun. But the moment you understand what the lyrics mean and what the song is about your perception of the song completely changes. While the song has been popular for a while now nonjapanese audiences have only slowly come to learn what this song is about and especially recently the song has gained noteriety for its lyrics and how people who dont understand them still bop to the song. So what is it about? The song follow a couple in love. The narrator talks about his significant other and how he knows something is up with her. The narrator then finds his lover on the edge of the rooftop thinking that he can save her he helps her of from it. Later on we learn that the signicant other of the narrator can see things that the narrator can not and the narrator hate those things. This is a reference to a popular short story called The Seduction of Thanatos. This short story talks about two types of people: Thanatos people who have an inclination towards death and Eros people who have an inclination towards live. The significant of the narrator seems to be a Thanatos and the thing that she can see is the reaper who tempts her to death. The narrator hates the reaper claiming that his significant other is in love with the reaper. In the end the narrator cant do anything to help his significant other and becomes tired of life itself. His significant wants to end it all but now only if he does it. The narrator agrees to it. In the last chorus it becomes clear that narrator himself was a Thanatos and that his significant other was the real reaper tempting him to end it. The song ends with the both of them collapsing of the building racing into the night. In short this song is about two lovers commiting suicide. The lyrics are very heavy and sometimes it is hard to read them. The visuals in the music video for the song also do a good job reflecting these lyrics even if they are very rough the colour palet is amazing though. So yeah Racing Into The Night is an amazing feelgood song with heartbreakingly good lyrics. There is a clash between the tones of the song itself and lyrics which is why it is so funny to see people who dont understand the lyrics bop to this song but that clash is also something pretty beautiful. The song and thus the music video does not only sound great it is something that can make me cry now. It truly deserves to be Yoasabis most popular work.
