This review will contain spoilers for both the game and the show. Also this show does include major spoilers for the game people who say otherwise are wrong. The literal first scene spoils the final boss. I love EXTRA the game as well as most the of franchise in general. The Fate/stay night Visual Novel could very possibly be my favorite piece of media only rivaled by SteinsGate. I thought EXTRA was a very cool spin on things and very well executed. A few months ago me and a friend who also loves the game decided to give this seemingly overhated show a try. We both thought it would be alright. We were wrong. It was so bad he decided to drop it and I put it on hold for some time. The first 10 episodes which are the ones that aired on TV are pretty fucking bad. There are a few nice scenes sprinkled in but its 90 garbage. The final 3 episodes aired separately and are under the title Illustrias Geocentric Theory. They are pretty decent. They fix some of the shows earlier issues but are still not that great and only 3 episodes cant help such a disaster much. Thinking about it all the nice moments are either very similar to EXTRA scenes or are just stolen. Presentation The art style sucks and does not fit most characters. Its just ugly. The animation is pretty average from what I remember but gets better in the finale. The show tries way too hard to be like Monogatari and it doesnt work. Wish they didnt hire the Monogatari director or Shaft. I hate the OPs video but I like the art in the EDs. Besides the OP and ED which are great I dont really remember much of it but what I remember was pretty good. Plot and characters Hakuno is pretty alright. The Dead Face thing is dumb though. Same thing applies for Twice. For most of the show Nero is funny UmU master sex but decides to become a character like in the game very later on. Rin and Rani are ok but the shit that happens in episode 10 is just awful. I dont remember how Shinji and Drake were. I assume they were okay. But I do remember their arc being incredibly stupid. They ruined Dan. Hes literally the opposite of how he was in the game. Hes missing everything that made him a good character. Robin was mostly how he was like in the game. I despise the stuff with Alice. They just decided to make her edgy for no reason. Her whole arc is just bad. I liked Julius and Li but the arc was not great. Leo was kinda different but still good. Gawain was the same. This show just shits on the game. I think TYPEMOON wanted to try doing something new but just did not know how to. So now we have this mess. This review probably makes it sound like it was just a mediocre show but I really do think its awful. This is my first review so thats a reason why also I was just listing stuff that came to mind at 4 AM. TLDR: Play the game. Dont watch this unless youve finished the game and are very interested. Still wouldnt recommend it to be honest.
