SPOILERS BEWARE High School Fleet or Haifuri was an anime I first watched in late 2018 but now that the movie has finally released I decided to rewatch the whole series since its been three years and my opinions on anime have changed quite a bit needless to say this particular anime has a specific charm to it that I really liked back then and I still like now the concept of the anime is pretty simple high school girls commanding warships and blasting huge guns at each other which is surprisingly enjoyable also for an anime which is pretty much solely focused on just females its still quite enjoyable its not your standard slice of life anime which can be pretty forgettable at times but the world is at a potential risk of a virus infection I also relate very closely to this anime on a personal level since it involves naval ships and I absolutely love playing the gacha game Azur Lane so it definitely catches my attention in this department. Its only 12 episodes but its a show which I see isnt really that well known and I would have been oblivious to it too if not for my friend first showing me Girls und Panzer followed by Haifuri which follows a similar concept except it focuses on warships rather than tanks. Its also a historical and military anime in a way so if thats what you are into then youre likely to enjoy this anime. I dont know what it is about this anime but its not one you think of when you mention feels but for some odd reason whenever members of the crew would leave the Harekaze it would always be super heartwarming seeing them return to their ship which can very well be called their home away from home there is just something really special about the Harekaze crew that genuinely feels like a family to the point even I as the viewer felt like I was part of the family so not sure what it is but the anime did catch me slightly tearyeyed in some episodes and it shouldnt since its a pretty happy anime with a positive ending overall but alas my feelings said otherwise. The concept for the majority of the show is pretty much the same sailing the sea and looking for the schools ships which have been infected by the virus so if youre not fond of this concept then you wont enjoy the anime since it doesnt offer much past what I just mentioned to me its enjoyable and satisfying since there was a clear goal of the show from the very beginning and well seeing navy ships in an anime after playing Azur Lane for quite a long time really gets to me and hits home on a personal level. As I mentioned there is a really specific charm to Haifuri which made it really likeable to me compared to other military shows this one will probably hit home the closest thanks to Azur Lane which is great since I now have a genuine interest in navy ships and learned quite a bit of history from a gameas odd as it sounds. One thing I need to mention is the OP holy damn is the OP incredible and I feel like people are missing out if they havent seen the show since they also havent been introduced to High Free Spirits and just damn is this song amazing it really does fit so well for this anime and then there is the time when the OP plays during the final episode when we witness the final confrontation against the Musashi its rare to see OPs played during the anime but man was this awesome heck the OP fits as an OP and OST for the show as its just that amazing a true gem of an OP from a show thats not really that well known. In terms of discussing the show further it seems like Im running out of content so will wrap it up shorter this time around its not a long show so there isnt much to talk about since the concept is practically the same but to me there was something majestic which made me pretty immersed and add the pint of feels here and there whenever the word family was brought up in relation to the Harekaze. Again if you like military shows then this one is definitely for you for me it hits home for another reason that I found it so enjoyable along with an incredibly memorable OP to boot. Its practically an allgirls anime but it has its own charm which I personally found cute and adorable and it wasnt a slog to finish as it had me entertained throughout so check it out for the reasons specified if any relate to you. Now time to move onto the OVA and movie.
