SPOILERS BEWARE So No Game No Life Zero is the prequel movie to the anime series which shows us what the world looked like a few hundred thousand years ago and honestly you dont have to watch this before the TV series in fact I personally think its better to watch the anime first since at the end of the movie there is a scene which is a sequel to where the anime left off. Anyway all I can say about this movie will be heaps of praise so settle in for a very positive review. Im gonna start with the characters this time round Riku and Schwi who are the two main characters of the movie and also have incredible similarities to Sora and Shiro so in theory it still feels like I am watching NGNL. One of the main reason why I prefer the movie over the anime is because it has actual romance Riku and Schwi end up marrying each other in the movie even though they are completely different species and Schwi even being a robot. Rikus feelings for Schwi felt genuine which was necessary for the scene which follows where Schwi ends up dying in her battle with Jibril. To me it seemed that she was able to fight so hard and passionately because she had someone she loved and had to protect at all costs. The main cast is great because it reminds the viewer a lot of Sora and Shiro and then there is also Couronne which bears a lot of similarities to Steph from the anime which does not include only her appearance as her personality is somewhat similar as well where she is very caring over Riku in the same form Steph is over Sora. The art is what you would expect from NGNL even though the movie is set in a much more dark and gloomy time period some scenes were full of vibrant colors which look fantastic most notably the cave where Riku and Schwi meet as well as the cave where they pledge their vows to each other. The art and scenery is pretty flawless and I cant really have any complains as its simply gorgeous to look at. The OST of the movie was also good we dont have any songs that stand out like All of you is All of me but the ED song of the movie which plays during the credits is pretty amazing and if you think about its name then its very pivotal to the movie itself as I believe it could reference Jibrils fight with Schwi the song is called There is a Reason which could directly link to Jibril and her motive for fighting Schwi in the first place. Once again art and OST is just fantastic as expected from a movie made by Madhouse. In terms of the plot as a whole then all I can say its fantastic as the movie is just under two hours and when I watched it it legitimately felt like not even an hour had passed and the movie was already over. I really like NGNL so I was very easily immersed in the plot of the movie and finding out more about the past of the world that Sora and Shiro were thrown into. The movie does indeed answer some questions which viewers may have had from the anime but seeing as this a prequel the anime itself presents questions which the movie cannot answer such as who are all the 16 different kind of races? From the stand point view I also preferred the movie over the anime as it had real romance vibes as well as being slightly emotional here and there most notably on Schwis death scene. The story didnt really have too many loopholes which could be pointed so if there was something that seemed odd its entirely possible that the viewer may have missed an important piece of information as to me it was constructed and paced very well which again I cant have any complaints about. Overall in terms of enjoyability then this movie is very easily up there for me and as mentioned many times already I prefer the movie over the anime due to it being more focused on romance and emphasising emotion. Its also kind of unfair to judge the anime since it isnt finished and never will be but based solely off the first season then I prefer the movie as it also has a conclusion which is something the anime lacked but again it wasnt realty its fault that the project of adapting the LN was dropped. This movie is also more serious than the anime as its not really a comedy anymore and almost has no ecchi moments but pure serious plot and character development albeit it was rather fast I still enjoyed it for what it offered. In the end a very damn amazing movie which I enjoyed thoroughly from the start all the way to the end and one which I cant really find any complaints about so its very easily near enough the top of the best shows/movies Ive seen. Highly recommend for any viewer to check this one out.
