Endro is a polished gemstone in more than just one aspect. If Iyashikei or CGDCT is synonymous to shallow for you this is the review trying to get you to change your mind. If not I am here to convince you to give Endro a try I might or might not succeed in doing either of those but I adore Endro to such an extent that it is absolutely worth a try. To do so there are three points I wish to prove: 1. Endro is a well polished argument in the form of an anime reflecting the thoughts/emotions of the author. 2. Anime like any other artform can be argumentative because among other anime Endro exists as a case of such. 3. Endro being an iyashikei CGDCT anime shows that not all iyashikei CGDCT anime are shallow. The Depth and Consistency of Endro When we say that an anime has depth I will assume that we mean that there is more to an anime than meets the literal first eye. The undeniably cute characters both in writing and design the aesthetic the voice acting and sound design the storywriting and storytelling if an animes merits are limited to such points we in turn perceive that anime to be shallow. The interplay between the individual parts making up an anime and how such interplay mutually enhances each aspect and the possibility of further interpretation something that requires more than just a passive absorption of what we literally perceive at first sight is what constitutes depth and Endro offers us plenty of it. This is my personal interpretation of Endro: I saw Endro as an argument claiming first that the only constant in our lives is our pursuit of what we like and that no exogenous factors can deny nor alter this fundamental principle and that second such pursuit is not finite or totalistic but infinite. With this as context: Supporting the first interpretation: the cuteness of the characters both in writing and design enhance what I believe to be the main argument of the original authors story. To give an example of their writing among many other factors the motivations of the individual characters varied as they may be from wanting to eat tasty meals wanting to be a cool hero wanting to feel humane warmth and many more all converge to because I like it. To see an example of their design please refer to the key visualhttps://s4.anilist.co/file/anilistcdn/media/anime/cover/large/nx103301cSSHgCgUQVrR.jpg. The aesthetic of the anime as a whole also aids to this cause while simultaneously giving the characters a world or background befitting them thereby enhancing the story and by extension the authors argument represented by it. Similarly the voice acting and sound design follow suit. This cuteness for lack of a better term is not spread throughout the anime in seperate interim and unconnected moments. The cute atmosphere is a central and consistent theme of the anime. This consistency again lends to depth. Supporting the second interpretation: Endro the title of the anime itself serves as perfect evidence. After all Not to mention it is the consistent and central theme of the anime that as can be seen in the first episode What is left after the end? When one actually achieves their finite dream? Endro provides an answer. Conclusion It is not that Endro features depth in spite of its cute atmosphere and theme it is because of these factors that all individual parts in their interplay with each other enhance the whole and imbue it with depth. Given the previous Endro can be seen as being 1. a well polished argument in the form of an anime reflecting the thought/emotion of the original author that being the constancy of the pursuit of what we like the pursuit of beauty the pursuit of happiness or any other synonym which is a whole larger than the absolute sum of its individual parts. This by extension shows 2. that anime 3. including Iyashikei CGDCT anime can feature a depth befitting an argumentative artform. 4/5 Very Good Alone is an Insufficient Description
