SPOILERS BEWARE The sequel to Non Non Biyori is exactly what you should expect from this series after watching the first season. In fact this is a sequel however it felt like a rebroadcast of the first season from a different perspective showing many different scenes that the prequel didnt cover. The first episode for instance is the prequel to even the first season as it shows Renge before she even became a first grader. Her character was pretty much set from the beginning and she hasnt changed at all within two one year spans from both seasons so never change Renge as you are perfectly adorable and lovable the way you are. 800https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/635602177833959439/944611684499210290/unknown.png Since this series may very well be the most carefree anime Ive ever watched there isnt much story or plot of reference for the most part each episode could very well be enjoyed as a standalone and you wouldnt be missing much if you per chance started with this season instead of the first. That isnt to say this show isnt sweet and wholesome as it is exactly that. Some notable moments from this season are the intense ruler match from the 2nd episode. In all honestly I never thought a game with only rulers could be so competitive and intense but damn I loved it. Another would be the 4th episode where Renge finds new pets for their school which turn out to be shrimp tadpoles but since their lifespan is short they die very soon and it takes a while to click or she doesnt want to believe the truth but we see a sad Renge yet again. Sad children are crippling to me so no more of this please Another simple one would be the 6th episode where the girls planned to release fireworks in the evening but that plan derailed which ended up leading to something even more beautiful. The girls got to experience firefly fireworks which had their own charm anyway. Also the name Hotaru literally translates to firefly which means the girls were seeing Hotaru fireworks. This is also the 2nd character whos name had a direct reference to something as we saw Renge flowers in the prequel season. 800https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/635602177833959439/944612314710179940/unknown.png The 8th episode is packed with quite a few memorable scenes firstly the flashback for Renges very first day at the school as a two year old where she ruined the curry that was being prepared that day she also ruined Natsumis tower which was going for a world record so Renge had obviously been a mischievous child from the beginning. And what did Renge make of all this? She had an absolute blast after all. Later in the same episode we also saw backstory for Komaris plushie which the photo album makes very clear that some things simply are priceless as she still keeps her plushie as an eighth grader. The following episode is probably one of the highlights of the season for me as we see more sides to a flustered adorable Natsumi who has now become my favorite of the girls. Even a simple two or three minutes showing a more feminine side of Natsumi are absolute gold as its so different from her normal day to day boyish persona. Lastly the ending to the 11th episode shows that Hotaru really is a fifth grader at heart but doesnt show off this side of herself to even her close friends. I wouldnt mind see her act more like this in front of the other girls and I certainly wouldnt mind seeing more of a feminine Natsumi either. 800https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/635602177833959439/944612927275679834/unknown.png Finally since this season also had an OVA which was essentially a 13th episode I will add it to this review. That episode genuinely covers a time lapse of a year in one single episode which was eye opening. The village that the girls live in doesnt change no matter what season it is and it looks like they wont be running out of potential ideas on how to spend their days either. In the end this carefree and peaceful nature is exactly what makes Non Non Biyori the anime it is. Its such a beautifully crafted peaceful experience for the ages. In all honesty this may very well be the most carefree anime Ive ever watched and whats scary is the episodes zoom past within minutes as I find myself more and more immersed with this series. Now I have high hopes for the final season and seeing how this relaxing series will provide closure to the audience.
