I picked up this manhua after starting Top Tier Providence they are similar in plot and I havent read a cultivation story in a painfully long time so I was actually pretty hungry and excited to read some self insert p schlock to tickle my power fantasy fancy. To my dismay though this series is bad not only is it bad but it is honestly just as bad if not worse than Top Tier Providence which is very disappointing. The plot of this manhua is bland the entire premise is to be lowkey and not stand out so its obvious that it will be more of a slice of life manhua than the usual wuxia action packed cultivator stories were used too. But even though I can understand the aim it just misses the shot entirely. Its really boring and the characters are either super cliche evil man or stupidly silly accessory that exists to meat ride the MC and remind you Hey I know he hasnt done anything of note for a long time but dont forget This guy is cool. It fails pretty miserably at making the story worth reading as the story does a lot of telling not a lot of showing. You get drip fed very very small amounts of hype moments with the MC that honestly fall flat as most of the time he schemes and does a lot of tip toeing around subjects to avoid confrontation. That in and of itself is okay but makes the MC appear weak and lame and its just not satisfying to a reader. The side characters are one dimensional as I said and have little to no variety and even the main love interests are summed up by single personality traits. This is to be expected really its nothing new for this medium. It falls apart though quickly when the MC himself is one note and gets little time to shine and is often holding back as I mentioned before. The art for the series is subpar as well it is soso. Its not bad for manhua though since manhua is lagging ever so slightly behind manwha in terms of shoveling out well drawn shovelware in story form I can cut it some slight slack for that. On a more personal and subjective note the humor in this series just doesnt really hit for me at all so I find it juvenile and often times very forced and unappealing. I am sure this is a cultural difference coupled with this manhua being aimed at younger demographics than I. So I am sure any younger readers on the middle school to early high school side will be perfectly content with the series on those fronts. For me though the humor falling flat is a big sin. Slice of lifeesque stories need something of substance to keep me gripped and reading if the story lacks any real over arching goal. This series does not have that Its very bland and its biggest sin is how little goes in the amount of chapters it has out. The chapters themselves are flawed as well they are fairly quick reads at times. Which is extremely evil. You are going to be reading 5 minutes or less of content a week for zero plot advancement and 9 times out of ten none of these chapters have anything happening in them. Its a waste of your time to read this series in general but its an even more egregious waste if you are stuck reading this weekly. I do not recommend this manhua at all there is far better stuff out there to read with far better art and Im sure there even some doing the exact same premise with much more finesse.
