500http://i.ur.com/w4YOC1e.jpg Hold on... is... is my computer screen stained or dirty or something? What the hell is with the left side? Introduction Not going to lie I wouldnt have even watched this show in the first place if the episodes werent only ten minutes each/if it werent for the RotK angle. Digressing this show is an adaptation of a Chinese manhua series by Bai Maohttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SoulBuster which itself is based off that sort of famous Romance of the Three Kingdomshttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RomanceoftheThreeKingdoms by Luo Guanzhonghttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LuoGuanzhong. As someone who has read RotK and is big into it I should put this out there right away. Perhaps Bai Mao used his own fictional characters rather than the RotK/actual Ancient Chinese generals or perhaps its just that the names are different but I could honestly recognize only one of the generals that show up in the entirety of Soul Buster and thats just because he appears very similar to how he appears in other RotK adaptation things his appearance is more or less the exact same as he appeared in Dynasty Warriors. Okay a female warrior with white hair dont know who shes supposed to be but shes the main general I guess. Oh wait. Whos that now who shows up right in the opening but is a major plot point? Ancient Chinese/Romance of the Three Kingdoms stuff aside its a show where people come out of cards and battle with each other. Theres really not much to say about the actual action beyond that. That being said though it was... acceptable. If it wasnt for everything else I could probably call it perfectly average. Only the required amount of plot and character Okay the general premise is that a blue haired teenager has a dream and in it he finds himself in the Ancient China times and theres this undead emperor guy whos going on about how someone stole his heart. The teenager runs away but accidentally finds the evil emperors heart and somehow doing that gives it back to the emperor himself? Mind you this all just happened in a dream this teenager had. Apparently the teenager can alter history/time through his dreams. Then... the undead emperor of the Kan Han? dynasty gains the ability to alter history and time and apparently just completely changes history? Or attempt to? And then the game of Soul Buster became a thing and the generals had their souls sealed into cards so the rest of their existence would be unending battles with each other or being trapped in this empty dimension??? 440http://i.ur.com/J6vgGdR.png Theres a lot of weirdness here if you bother to even look closer. But youre not supposed to. Theres action scenes. This teenager is literally just a teenager thats his whole character. Just watch the card people battle like youre supposed to dont focus on the undead emperor who literally devours peoples souls/altering history aspect. Also yeah of course the teenagers history teacher just happens to play this violent and deadly card game involving summoning the spirits of Ancient Chinese generals. Oh yeah the high school is also named Three Kingdoms High. Get it? Like the Three Kingdoms as in the Romance of the Three Kingdo 440http://i.ur.com/ssRYI5v.png Just put a bunch of stuff over the show itself. Itll make it better. For whatever reason they apparently decided that the anime needed something more. Thus they added this terrible overlay effect to every second of every episode of the anime. Sometimes its not super noticeable but its always there. Perhaps the thought behind it was to give the show its own sort of unique look that only it has? But its only ever bothersome and looks... bad. 440http://i.ur.com/9TaH8Ee.png 440http://i.ur.com/p3G8hEW.png I dont really know what made this seem like a good idea. But if it was just that I would have probably waved it off. Like okay yeah sure it looks terrible bad but it doesnt make me want to fully stop watching. Its partway into the first episode that its revealed to the viewer that whenever ANYTHING happens in this show random colorful splotches will bombard the screen. A character being summoned from their card to the fight scenes splotches for all. They happen in all twelve episodes. For no reason whatsoever other than well okay here are some splotches. 440http://i.ur.com/N8fqZFd.png 440http://i.ur.com/1oeuHNH.png 440http://i.ur.com/adIh1KB.png 440http://i.ur.com/vqWOAHt.png Why. This isnt... theres no purpose for the splotches. Its just more stuff on the screen covering up the actual show thats going on. Who thought these were good ideas? In trying to make the show more unique/less generic Well no other show has these splotches. its actually making the show worse. I just dont get what they were going for. But now this show is burned into my brain as that show with the splotches. Conclusion A would be average show if only the characters and the plot were to be judged on their own gets dragged down by the appearance of the show itself. I wouldnt recommend to actually watch it even if youre looking for generic action theres better out there but you know as previously stated the episodes are only ten minutes long each. Its still not the worst TV Short Ive watched/thats out there. Splotch Buster gets a 3.5 out of 10 or a 35 out of 100. 500http://i.ur.com/vDZ3nCC.png
