Flip Flappers is yet another anime that tackles the age old setting of adolescences. Metaphors of growing up independence and sexual frustration are abound in this setting and Flip Flappers show cases it in the most insane way possible. By insane 3Ghz Studios turns the animation up to 11 by taking a ton of drugs and tripping their way through the series. In any other case this could detract from the show being high and animating would probably lead to some inconsistency by 3Ghz knock it out of the park. Pure Illusion is the fantastical place. Alice in Wonderland + Madoka Magica labyrinths + insane amounts of drugs. Even after finishing this show I am not 100 sure what Pure Illusion was meant to represent. From what I gathered during my viewing which was during an /r/anime rewatch was that each world of Pure Illusion was an individuals state of mind. Terrifying and beautiful all at the same time. Im sure with multiple rewatches or pausing every few seconds would allow me to find various easter eggs and hints. This show however kept me rooted to the screen unable to pause it at any time. To be honest to do so would be an insult to the work the animators did with each sequence. Everything is just flows so well and looks amazing. To pause it would feel wrong. The show makes heavy use of various physiological elements most of which if I am honest went over my head. Without the rewatch this would of been just an interesting show to look at. It seems like everyone is broken in this show at some point and by the end everything is fixed. How I still really dont know or understand. What kept me going on the show was the story and how everyone is interconnected. Every character and their interactions seem well thought out and meaningful. My only disappointment was not seeing more of Dr. Salt during the earlier part of the show or explaining more details the Professor and his assistant ended up at Flip Flap. While his place was justified and explained well as a character I wish there had been more of him. I highly recommend this show for the ride it will take you on. You may not understand anything for a good 90 of the show but damn does it feel good whatever it is.
