The apologetics of an Experiment or Why you shouldnt hate To LoveRu Darkness I didnt specially like the original To LoveRu and maybe one day Ill write something about it but the fact is that I watched mainly because other people told me that it was worth it. Throughout most of the series I thought the episodes showed their age and the comedy even if it wasnt that bad was nothing exceptional or different from other stuff I had watched. In the end I felt like some of the episodes felt like they were there to make space before the grand finale and not to entertain th viewer. In the end I thought that the first part of To LoveRu was one of those pieces of anime that people just tend to watch though the lens of nostalgia and that people love it as some sort of classic of ecchi or something. But then I watched the Darkness even though the same people who told me to watch the series in the first place advised against it and understood that when most people came watching Darkness were expecting something entirely different and were watching the first part for a different reason. The main issue with To LoveRu Darkness its that is not a To LoveRu anime. Its supposed to be part of the series but its not like anything that came before it. This anime was an experiment to bring the old ecchi back and give it a fresh new face. The experiment also included trying to bring an actual story and develop the characters to create something different every week. And when you are trying to tell a story while trying to have the protagonist getting in sticky situations with the harem of girls sometimes the transition between serious business and comedy might not be that smooth. At the end of the day what the creators intended is for the series not to become stale to have an actual field where to expand the series and for it to not look out of place in the recent anime landscape. I totally understand if you hate Darkness because the original series gave you something that you are not going to get in this sequel. To LoveRu Darkness tries to bring something different to what its predecessors did and if you still think that the original series was the best you are going to hate what the creators decided to make with this one but if you decide to give Darkness a chance you will find that it is actually a standard ecchi anime that its trying its best to entertain the audience without having Rito just falling over and over on top of some other girls pantsu although it understands that its a part of the series and respects that. Over all its not an outstanding ecchi but it doesnt deserve the hate that it gets. Its only fault its not being a good sequel. Maybe the first OVAhttps://anilist.co/anime/13851/ will be more to your liking. I understand but I still think there is audience that will like To LoveRu Darkness. Just enjoy
