I will begin by saying that I didnt particularly enjoy the show. Usually a big cast of diverse characters can be a benefit of a show in this particular case the amount of people in Class 3E is to its detriment. In the best case scenario they are all background filler. None of the episodes dedicated to one or the other character did anything to flesh them out but rather just explain them. And after they are explained they stay static: This guy is good at baseball this chick is good at science and so forth. To call them 1 dimensional is an insult to lines. Even the main characters dont have too much to them and if I had to pick main characters theyd be KoroSensei and Nagisa. Everyone else even Karma werent significant. On the subject of Nagisa I will admit that I did appreciate his relationship with his overbearing and micromanaging mother it felt genuine even if exaggerated. A lot of people have had contact with such parents who try to fix their own mistakes via their children and I will give the show credit for not playing it for laughs. In reality I wouldnt say that a parent such as this one would be so easy to change their ways but we can all dream. KoroSensei as well is a strong point of the show. Being the mascot and guide light of the story. He is one of the few people that has a discernible personality. I will admit though that I didnt quite like the fact that he was more or less right for everything. He was a bit too flawless of a person. But I wont take off points for that too much. Now there are a couple of things about the show that were part of its charm and I found cute. People took murder way too lightly in the show. And talked about killing in a very matteroffact light. Koro Sensei is a literal murderer whos responsible for way too many deaths over his long career as an assassin. Same goes for his student The Reaper. Them painting the relationship as just any other teacher/student relationship where Koro Sensei just wasnt a good enough teacher and let him down was just weird when put in context. Same goes with all the other references to murder blood lust etc. It just feel not genuine especially in the context of a show thats so feelgood. All the issues the kids face are always resolved very cleanly with a bow and a moral lesson in the end. It felt like a Saturday morning cartoon just wrapped in paper that says MURDER on it right next to a smiley face. I wouldnt put that as a negative but it did feel weird. Im guessing that was intentional though. What I will put as a negative is the complete and utter lack of stakes in the show. At one point Lovro and Sniper Boi are killed by the Reaper to showcase a new villain in the show. Then they are just shown to be OK with little to no injuries. Even the villains who are said to have killed literally THOUSANDS of people are just pushovers. And that happens over and over in the show. None of the things happening can be taken seriously because the show just takes a step back and says: Yeah this wasnt significant after all carry on. Another huge negative is the amount of episodes the show has. It just drags on and on and on with way too many episodes dedicated to completely insignificant things just to have some of the already lackluster characters do nothing and pretend that they had growth. I had to force myself to finish the show because so much of it just dragged on forever. I had heard the ending was really good so I did force myself to finish it but it was completely lacking for me. It was a forced tearjerker moment with 10 minutes of Koro Sensei just saying the names of people that I didnt care about. None of those characters were interesting none of them had anything to do so I couldnt feel sad for them. So the ending was completely and utterly lost on me. As additional points: Visually the show was OK the music wasnt memorable but I did like most of the OPs especially the last onehttps://www..com/watch?v=iug12DnMNHQ. It had a glaring lack of waifusIrina was OK but one swallow does not a summer make and the Engrish was hilarious. Id rate season 1 as a 6.5 and season 2 as a 6.0 because of how little I cared at the end for the people. To put the score into context I consider a 7.0 show to be average.
