So I had tried to read the book of Genocidal Organ a few years back whenever this movie was announced to get myself ready for this one. I didnt end up finishing the book probably because my attention span was waning. There were so many dragged on parts that I just couldnt keep myself invested. The same could be sort of said here in anime movieadaption. Genocidal Organ feels like it should be more capable but it ends up in some inconsistent places at times. The problem was I liked what it was trying to do with the world. Theres a lot of political stuff here that doesnt get explored all too often in anime. The story itself might be standard for a book but to see it adapted into anime makes it feel much more unique. Geological Organ is much more mature and brutal than most other anime and Im sure its where most of my enjoyment stemmed from. I loved the special ops parts of this film. There are two scenes in particular that were intensively hype. With regards to general action though those two scenes only happen in the beginning and near the end. Which is a shame because the dynamic camera movement and firstperson view were a real treat to witness in anime form. Plus the brutal violence everytime someone took a hit from a gun. A lot of the presentations of Genocidal Organ was video gameesque. I know many others are griping about the animation and the whole Manglobe bankruptcy affecting the quality of this film. Im sure if I were to really nitpick this one I could find inconsistencies though for the most part the film holds its own in the animation department. I thought it did its job fairly well although I was trying to pay more attention to the actual story than visuals. That is to say except for the action that felt lacking. Even though I vaguely remember the book I could have sworn there were more combatheavy scenes spread throughout. Maybe it was naive of me to want action in a smart film. I think the movie sort of lost me with its actual story plot because it had to condense way too much. I said this for my Harmony 2015 review but this should have also been a 1 cour anime series to flesh out concepts and keep the focus in between episodes. I still dont really understand the concept of the Genocidal Organ that they describe in the movie and really that defeats the purpose of the title. Too many unanswered questions and not enough proper development. If theres anything that prevented me from loving this one its that the film just wasnt transparent enough with its concepts.
