Solanin besto manga slice of life SOLANINE GLUCOSIDE PRESENT IN PLANTS OF THE SALANACEAE FAMILY IT IS FOUND IN LARGE QUANTITIES IN UNRIPE POTATOES IT IS A BITTER TASTE TOXIN WHICH CAN PRODUCE SYMPTOMS SUCH AS STOMACH PAIN OR DIZZINESS WHEN INGESTED Those are the first words that Inio Asano writes in what I consider to be one of the best manga I have read where the author thoroughly squeezes each of his characters. The manga is genre seinen I think pulling more to slice of life where it shows us the lives of the characters the day to day of each one. The plot of the manga is simple Meiko inou lives a boring postadolescent life after graduating working as an office worker in a company and doing housework she is not at all satisfied with her current life she has a partner named Taneda works as a parttime illustrator For a magazine until now something normal for Japanese society they will try to get used to an adult life with which they do not want to know anything and you show us that they can still fight for their dreams page by page. Meiko quickly quit her job as an office clerk in which she was paid well but found it very boring and being surrounded by adults bothered her a lot. After this they show us the passion of Taneda which is music. He has a small band as a hobby with his friends from college Billy and Katou very close to Taneda are his disconnection with adult life that overwhelms him. Solanin is a manga to read and reread with many sentences it covers topics such as happiness maturity growth depression and life itself where we can see the problems of each character and how they face their deepest feelings and pains meiko with their boring work the not wanting to be an adult having to live alone getting a new job maintaining her relationship with taneda. Taneda fighting with his dream of living from music and having to look for a job that satisfies him also fighting with his feelings constantly Katou who has not yet graduated from college and feels frustrated with his life he also looks for work and uses music as a disconnection and as a very important character is billy who works as a pharmaceutical clerk and feels like an old man throughout the manga we can see even his deepest thoughts captured by the author. a more secondary character is kotani girlfriend of katou. The truth is that it is a manga where we can see what happens to an average 18/25 person a constant uncertainty of what to do and a decisionmaking with which they are not very sure but it may be the most stable thing. It is true that what the manga means to follow your dreams or as the same manga says WHAT DROPPED INTO THE WATER IS THAT WONDERFUL IMPULSE TOWARDS AN IDEAL AND GOLDEN FUTURE OR THE ACCEPTANCE OF AN ORDINARY AND STABLE SILVER FUTURE. MY LITTLE REVIEW COMES HERE SINCE I DONT WANT TO SPOILIATE ANYTHING ELSE XD what stands out most about Solanin is how realistic his characters are his daily life how they value a simple festival of fireworks knowing that it could be one of the few moments of fun they had and they cling to their dreams constantly questioning every decision they make very melancholic it shows us how important values are such as friendship family or simply doing what you like even if you go from being in a wellpaid company to not being able to sell a record. As for the artistic inio asano captures the characters very well and shows their emotions on their faces to perfection with a very good drawing taking advantage of the backgrounds and landscapes. Sometimes simple is best and this manga shows it on every sheet AND AS MEIKO SAYS Today with fear I begin to walk the first steps of the days to come
