Its pretty clear that this isnt an anime per se. Its just one long music video for Sturgill Simpsons album by the same name Sound and Fury which just happens to be animated at some parts. Honestly I had no idea about this going in not knowing who Sturgill was until after I finished watching it and googled him. I went in thinking this was just going to be a music heavy movie with no actual dialogue but still an ongoing plot. And it seemed to be that way until about 10 minutes into the video. Not until that point when the characters dropped the story all together and just randomly started dancing did I realize what this truly was not an anime but a music video. After that I was presented with a series of video clips for each song that were mostly independent of each other with a few making references back to the original samurai revenge story. Some of these seemed like they could possibly be contained within the same fictional world while others were clearly purely aesthetic with no clear purpose. There was even one segment that was completely live action. Judging it purely as a music video it was great engaging entertaining and perfectly accompanied the music with top notch animation. The problem was with the fact that it doesnt seem to be marketed as purely the music video that it is at least not openly on Netflix. Being someone who never heard of Sturgill and only watched it expecting to get at least a decent story I was sorely disappointed. There was no clear cohesion between the video segments just random scenes that looked interesting. I didnt feel like there was any reason to continue watching other than for the music. The sad part is that the original samurai revenge story that Netflix marketed it as actually seemed like it would make a good series. There was purpose a clear goal/direction for the main character decent action scenes and even a plot twist near the end. Maybe make it a manga where they could spend more time on each individual image and make a truly visual tale. Maybe make it a oneshot with no text or something just add more context to the story and focus on the actual story rather than the music. In any case just make the actual STORY. I dont go to Netflix to listen to music I go there to watch movies and TV shows with actual plot. Im not sorry that I watched this on the contrary I enjoyed myself and found a new artist to listen to. But please dont put things like this on Netflix. Keep it on YouTube or some other music focused site where the intended audience will actually appreciate the music. And dont call it anime. Music: 9/10 Animation: 8/10 Plot: 4/10 Overall: 6/10 TLDR Dont watch this unless you specifically want to listen to music
