Yamagishi is a Japanese mangaka and part of the Year 24 Group. She made her professional debut in 1969 with Left and Right a short story published in Ribon Comic a spinoff magazine of Ribon. As a child Yamagishi studied ballet which plays a part in many of her works. In 1983 she won the Kodansha Manga Award in the shoujo manga category for Hi Izuru Tokoro no Tenshi. In 2007 she won the 11th Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize for Maihime Terepsikola.
