Just another anime fan who may be a bit nitpicky on what shows and manga he consumes. I created this account basically for the expanded favorites and more precise scores. A little guide about my scores: Basics: I usually give scores as my enjoyment dictates. If my gut says a 9.3 its a 9.3 and not a 9.2 or a 9.4. Simple yet effective for me. The 0 score doesnt mean appalling its literally the only way I can use to mark something as cant score be it because a manga doesnt have a director or that an original anime cant have a manga adaptation score. The worst score I can give is a 0.1 Diabolik Lovers basically. The overall score I want to give prevails over objective more or less objective though score I give to each section. It doesnt matter if I gave for example a 9 to story a 9 to characters and a 10 for enjoyment if I want the show to be a 10 in my list and not a 9.3 it must be a 10. Subjectivity? Of course. Now for the sections: Writing. Here I value the story plot twists logic plot holes conveniences Deus Ex Machina etc. the story has. A more formal way of saying story basically. Here I also value themes deep themes philosophical questions and if the media succeeds at doing what it tried to do. The gold standard the perfect 10/10 example for me what I use as a reference for perfection for this section is Vinland Saga manga. Characters. How theyre developed if I like them or not how realistic they are within their universe and their circumstances their designs their chemistry... Normally I tend to love animanga casts in which all characters have time to shine see Pandora Hearts Gintama or Legend of the Galactic Heroes. My gold standard for this section is Pandora Hearts manga. Art / animation. I dont think this one needs an explanation. Character designs animation fights angles backgrounds... how pleasing it is to my eyes. The gold standards for this section are Tongari Boushi no Atelier for manga and JoJos Bizarre Adventure anime though the mangas art is perfect too. Sound. Soundtrack voice performance and OPs/EDs/Insert songs. How pleasing they are to my ears and most importantly a really good soundtrack can improve the score drastically for me. Gold standard: Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica. Enjoyment. Doesnt need an explanation since its the most subjective section. There are also bad animanga I can enjoy I enjoyed SAO dont me. Gold standard: Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. Guilty pleasure. Score for how much I enjoyed a guilty pleasure in its own category. How good it is to be a guilty pleasure of mine. Obviously this only applies to again guilty pleasures. Gold standard: To LoveRu Darkness manga. Direction. The most controversial one Id say. I consider a direction to be good when it exponentially makes the anime better than it should be in terms of enjoyment pacing the wow its already finished factor creativity use of colors animation storytelling etc. and a generally good experience that doesnt have anything to be with the other sections. Gold standard: Monogatari series. Adaptation quality. Here I score how well I considered the original source to be adapted if I read it. Making the experience more entertaining having an amazing animation / voices / OST skipping unnecesary things explaining things better... I dont think it needs a more thorough explanation. Gold standards: Kaguyasama: Love is War and Kimetsu no Yaiba I couldnt decide they are both perfect adaptations.
