When I start something new I try to let it speak for itself. Flaws usually dont get in the way of my enjoyment. Sometimes they can even enhance it if the flaws are interesting. The reason is because I feel that many stories are too diverse to compare fairly. As long as they offer something unique and have a similar quality level I usually find them equally valuable. While I recognize that some works are better than others condensing an animes success and failure to an average score is challenging to me.
