My interest in anime began mainly with Studio Ghiblihttps://anilist.co/studio/21/StudioGhibli movies but thanks to the low quality of some of the anime series that had made it to American television I wasnt yet sold on anime series. That decisively changed when I saw Your Lie in Aprilhttps://anilist.co/anime/20665/ShigatsuwaKiminoUso. This showed the potential of the medium for storytelling and it made me realize that anime is in a different league than Saturday morning and weekday afternoon cartoons. I watch more than just animehttps://simkl.com/2607691/ including plenty of Korean dramashttps://mydramalist.com/dramalist/fduniho. I also listen to musichttps://www.last.fm/user/fduniho read bookshttps://www.librarything.com/catalog/fduniho play Chess variantshttp://www.chessvariants.com/ and write on my bloghttp://fortheloveofwisdom.net/ about freethought and philosophy. The scale I use goes like this: 10 is a masterpiece 9 is great 8 is very good 7 is good 6 is fine 5 is soso 4 is bad 3 is very bad 2 is horrible and 1 is appalling. This is the same as the scale on MyAnimeList but I treat 5 as meaning soso instead of average since I rate simply on quality not on any kind of curve that factors in how good the average anime is. Since my own viewing of anime is highly selective I have no basis for deciding what counts as average anyway. Generally my dropped anime ranges from appalling to soso and my completed anime ranges from fine to masterpiece. I normally alternate between different streaming services on a monthly basis. When I cancel a subscription for a time I pause the shows I was watching on it until I start watching them again. This accounts for why my Paused list has grown larger than my Watching list. At present I have been focusing mainly on live action shows but I currently have an HBO Max subscription and I have been using it to watch the Studio Ghibli movies I havent seen yet.
