Why is Anilist better than MAL?

Ive been using this website for a couple of years. Mostly because I enjoy making lists and also because I never really liked MAL. I always suggest Anilist to my dear friends with the following phrase: MAL is shit use Anilist. It is true that I really enjoy Anilist and its community but I have no idea of why its better than MAL. Can we have a discussion on the differences between those platforms ups and downs?
