Fate/stay night Heavens Feel II. lost butterfly the perfect stage Jean Paul Sartre a French philosopher and one of the people that changed how I view life once said that We are our choices and taking this into consideration in Lost butterfly a movie that is centered around choosing and being offered the chance to choose a lot can be said about the beautifully crafted characters. On one hand you have Shirou Emiya a character who I loathed from the very start of the Fate franchise because of his ideals and how he acts upon them. Despite him being this one sided narrow minded character in all of the other Stay Night routes in Heavens Feel and specifically in Lost Butterfly he evolves into a much more complex character. He is tormented about the choices he has to make in order to go forward and how will that affect him who he really is as Sartre said. Shirou a person who previously wanted to help others blindly even forcing it on them now reflects upon the concept of helping yourself. This behavior is inherited because of him being deprived of choice in the previous Holy Grail war and being helped without asking by his future adoptive father Kiritsugu. In lost butterfly the stage is being set a stage on which Shirou will decide if he will force his help on others or help them help themselves. On the other hand you have Sakura Matou a girl who was never given to opportunity to choose for herself and in accordance with Jean Pauls ideology she was no one as she has never chosen. All her life she was treated as a puppet of different mage families who used her for their personal gains. In the second instalment of the her route Sakura is starting to be put for the first time in a position of choosing for herself. She is overwhelmed by all the emotions she held back for so many years and doesnt know that to do reaching a breakpoint in her life. The now broken and ravaged with emotions Sakura has to make the most important choice of her life. She mustnt rely on other to make this decision especially on Shirou who usually imposes his help. If she does rely on other or if other interfere with her she will never get a chance to disprove the fact that she is no one. To sum up Fate/stay night Heavens Feel II. lost butterfly sets a perfect stage for the next movie and exposes the dark truth behind the importance of choices in our life. Will Sakura be free from he restraints or will she be chained down by them for the rest of her life? Will Shirou come save her but also damn her to a life of slavery to her own shortcomings as a person? Will they be able to both evolve into complete human beings?
