This manga has several points that should be touched upon but TLDR: this was a cathartic read that made me feel less alone. Overall Id recommend for those who have a mental illness and/ or are neurodivergent. Not all forms of neurodivergence are touched upon and could vary on the affect for some. TW and CW is discussed in the final paragraph. Hattatsu Shougai to Issho ni Otona ni Natta Watashitachi also known as My Brain is Different: Stories of ADHD and other Developmental Disorders is in part an autobiographical manga with the majority of it being illustrations of personal accounts sent to the mangaka Monzusu. The topic of which focuses on Developmental and Learning Disorders as well as comorbidities that each person chooses to disclose. This manga also got an official English release. I do not claim perfect representation in part due to the essay like nature but I can claim as someone seeking assessment on several things and who is at a turning point in their life I felt seen. I read all chapters at once at 4 in the morning. It feels great to read the narratives of people who were able to utilize their resources and become comfortable with themselves it makes me feel more capable to be able to give myself the accommodations in my life that I need. It helps me feel less ashamed. This autobiographical/ biographical manga is one that I will likely turn to again in times of distress and when I need to be reminded that Im not alone. In addition I feel as though queer readers may also find solace in the stories within the manga despite none of them being openly lgbt+ within the book itself. Personally as a bi person who is not jumping towards dating it is nice to read about some alternative views on relationships and life. However queer voices is not a focus of the book. And finally it is important to touch on some trigger/ content warnings even if some might seem obvious. And as a side note through a quick skim I could not find any depictions of physical features drawn in such a way that could be upsetting to some POC readers however my knowledge on this topic is limited and it is possible that I missed something. Please be safe.
