Yurika no Campus Life is really dumb to the point I think most people would label it as hot trash. I certainly have that feeling several times when reading its 45 chapters for the span of a year or more. Some might even critique its over the top absurdist comedy as trying too hard and falling flat. But I must disagree Yurika no Campus Life is not trying at all. There is a selfawareness to its absurdity and it is obvious that they just do not care they just own that cringe and run with it with the velocity of man sprinting to the restroom because he held his bladder for the entire 2 hours of a movie because he did not want to miss anything. Yurika no Campus Life is about a straight woman trying to find a rich guy to marry so she can live a comfortable life. Unfortunately despite how beautiful she looks she is unable to attract the opposite sex but for whatever reason can only attract women. The story starts of with her family business becoming bankrupt and in heavy dept forcing her to use her supernatural female attracting talents to survive. Firstly I want to talk about its art and how I feel there is a missed opportunity for it to be even more funnier than the merits of its writing. The artisthttps://anilist.co/staff/97422/TakahiroSeguchi is pretty talented in cute ecchi illustrations which works great for the many perverted scenes. But I cannot shake the feeling if he is a more talented artist that can really push the limits of human expressions I think the comedy will sell even better for me. But nonetheless really solid artwork that definitely sell the whole SPIRIT OF YURI energy. Is this supposed to be a rom com? I have no freaking idea. The main character Yurika definitely have what the story call a legal wife Saori that is definitely gay AF but refuse to admit it. The odd couple have a really interesting dynamic that is just so entertaining to watch. Yurika is forced to woo other women in order to leech money and food from them because she literally has no money. She stays with her childhood friend Saori not only for free residence but also to prevent other women from trying to get into a serious relationship with her. Because... technically she is straight and wants to marry a guy for a comfortable life. Saori agrees to pretend to be a couple but time and time again it is obvious even she is not immune to Yurikas female charms and constantly denies that she is gay but surprise surprise... Please do not expect a heartfelt Yuri romance from this series all the characters are comically exaggerated archetypes in the Yuri genre and its definitely an absurd parody of Japanese Girls Love media. This is definitely not a series for newbie Yuri fans but for veteran Yuri fans that are able to humbly retrospect and realize how funny the genre and fandom can be. Think how Kung Fu Hustle is for martial arts films think Scary Movie is for horror films think Shaun of the Dead is for zombie films Yurika No Campus Life is for Yuri and I believe is best enjoyed for those that is familiar with the genre.
