I like oneshots. Whenever I try and probably fail to clear my ptr I always start with some oneshots. Some of them are good stories that accomplish a lot in a short amount of time. Others are bad bland just plain traumatic. Fortunately this is one of the good oneshots. Im grateful since Id been reading a lot of bad oneshots lately. Some of its my fault but I feel like I can blame one of my friends for this too. Im realizing this is my first shounen review since Ive previously only done shoujo. I hope this is as well received as my other ones. Gokurakugai is a story of a duo of jacks of all trades in the red light district. They work all sorts of jobs and investigate all kinds of things as long as it earns them some money. The story begins when after working a job Alma finds a young girl who wants to rescue her sisters who were being exploited after a tragic turn of events. I really like the world thats created. It feels very gritty and yet fantastical. Its not a nice world since it seems grubby and corrupt. And yet it seems so fascinating. It drags you in. So much about this just leaves you excited for the main series since everything about this oneshot shows so much potential. Im grateful that theres more content since if any series deserves a full series attached to it its this one. Our duo is very dynamic. We have Alma whos a friendly caring person. From what I saw he kind of reminded me of a typical shounen protagonist along the lines of Hinata from Haikyuu I like the character type and I feel like he has potential to show a little more depth in the main series. Tao or Sister Tao as Alma calls her runs the operation. Shes the one whos moneyconscious yet despite her tough exterior she has a heart. Shes clearly had a rough life and she shows a lot of compassion for those who are at their lowest point the way she was. I honestly wasnt expecting that type of characterization in a oneshot but I really was impressed by her. I look forward to seeing her in the main series because shes a badass. The art is gorgeous. I live for pretty art and this delivers. I remember seeing a scene I think when Tao was fighting and just noticed how beautiful the art was. The backgrounds and the detail put into the character designs made me so happy. As for the flaws its just the typical constraints of being a oneshot. I think it could be a fantastic work if it could expand on the world and the characters a bit more since thats what makes the manga. Basically if you want a cool oneshot with nice art an interesting world and likeable characters that leaves you wanting more read this. You wont regret it. Its a fun and enjoyable read. https://pbs.tw.com/media/FWVPBUKWIAEUiXh.jpg:large
