This review and my next one will be otomeisekai manga reviews even though they arent quite otome isekai they have the vibe and are usually grouped with them. The reason for this is as a thanks to my beloved friend Yeni who kickstarted my current interest in this genre. I dont think Id be writing so many reviews on these types of manhwas if not for her. And two of her all time favorites are getting animes so I will be reading them both beforehand. And thus begins my review of Tearmoon Empire. Princess Mia Luna of the Tearmoon Empire is known as a selfish princess and she never wants for anything. However when a revolution begins Mia soon faces a public execution by way of the guillotine. After she dies she awakens as her twelve yearold self. With a new fear of the revolution and her death instilled in her Mia decides to do everything she can to stop the revolution from ever occurring. I think my main issue with Tearmoon is that I feel like it moves too fast. Mia is able to win people over too easily. Id have liked it if there was more of a challenge for her to overcome in winning people over and stopping the famine. I do feel like I felt similarly about other otome isekai series like Roxana and I LOVE Roxana. I think its charming and silly but I feel like the more serious parts move much too quickly. I do think the series improves as it goes on with both the comedy and character interactions. I feel like as the story continued everything felt more genuine since some of the earlier parts felt forced with how everyone everywhere loved Mia without her putting in much effort. The later friendships still feel effortless but more along the lines of the types of friendships normal children make at school. Mia is a very chaotic character with silly facial expressions which means I automatically love her. I really appreciated how slow and realistic her growth was. When she goes back she doesnt automatically change. Shes still the same selfish selfabsorbed greedy person she was in the beginning. Shes doing everything out of fear for her own safety instead of genuine concern for others. However she does gain a lot more compassion kindness and self awareness little by little. Its one of those things where its hard to see her growth until you look back at the beginning and see how the character is different from the person they were before. I love watching her develop her relationships and get into all kinds of messes. Its funny to think about how Mia feels her physical age instead of her actual mental age since she never really grew up from the bratty child she was at twelve. Its interesting how she has a lot of trauma from her past events and how she has a lot of fears and dislikes of people based on her previous timeline. The other characters are very cute. My personal favorite was Abel the young prince who is Mias love interest. He wants to be good enough for Mia since hes regarded as useless by his own family. Hes the sweetest person ever and he deserves the world. I wish I knew someone as sweet as Abel in real life. His character growth is more prominent than Mias but they both spark a definite change in each other as Mia gives Abel strength while Abel helps Mia grow to care about other human beings. Other prominent characters include Anne Mias maid who stood by her even during her darkest times Tiona who Mia isolated during her previous life resulting in her taking part in the revolution and Sion who rejected Mia and took part in her execution. I think they were simple characters who might get more development. Theyre very likeable despite being not particularly deep. The art is super cute. The colored pictures are stunning with a lot of pastels. All of the character designs are adorable. I also just love the cute and silly faces the characters constantly make. Theyve won me over. I can easily see why this would be someones favorite since I had so much fun reading it. It was cute and funny with lots of French Revolution tieins. It was particularly funny since the translation I used had a lot of memes in between chapters. I got a lot of laughs and I hope anyone looking into this out of curiosity about the upcoming anime is encouraged to check it out.
