After School Lessons for Unripe Apples is a story of a girl named Miae Hwang and a boy named Cheol Kim go from basically strangers to acquaintances to friends to lovers. This is one of my favorite comics and honestly one of the best Ive read. Let me break it down. At the start of the comic it shows the main character Miae and her perspective and personality. As well as her first impression of Cheol. As they interact more our understanding of Cheol as well as Miaes increases. We see more and more of Cheols perspective as well as Miaes as the story progresses. But the real reason I highly recommend it is the way the story progresses. Anyone whos read Cheese in the Trap knows that Soonkithe author can write absolute masterpieces. This comic is another example of her brilliant writing. It really takes it slow and gives you a good idea of the characters inner complex. It shows the two main characters slowly gaining each others trust and becoming closer instead of jumping straight into the romance and/or friendship. The characters differences personalities traits and beliefs really shine through. If you love really well written characters and slow but sure progression youll love this comic. Another great thing about this comic is the fact that every single chapter feels important. There isnt a single chapter that feels insignificant or like filler. Every single moment feels like its building up to something. And even while that build is slow every moment is so entertaining. The comedy aspect is so good and pure. Every interaction feels like such joy. Every week when a chapter comes out I end up reading the chapter multiple times just to relive the joy. No matter how many times I reread it I never seem to get tired of their goofy personalities. Now lets talk about personal improvement. While a lot of the story is centered around theirCheol Miae interactions with each other I also really love the personal improvement of the characters. I feel it is really powerful and uplifting the way they bring out the best in each other and even encourage each other to push out of their comfort zones. Especially how it slowly became easier for Cheol to make friends and such after he became friends with Miae. We really end up seeing more and more of his bright side as the story progresses. TheyCheol and Miae really start to open up to each other and depend on each other. But this process also helps them learn to understand themselves a bit better. By opening up to each otherCheol and Miae they find themselves more comfortable opening up to otherseveryone else. Another amazing thing you should think about is the art. Oh my goodness I could go on and on about the expression that Soonki draws for the characters. Its like you dont even need dialogue to understand sometimes. The emotions of the characters really shines through the art and expressions. Overall this is the perfect comic for anyone who likes well written characters slow but sure progression great expression through art funny and pure interactions and a story that isnt all about the romance but also the characters growths I highly recommend this series as it is my favorite webcomic.
