The majority of the first chapter is the meeting between Ace and Deuce. We see ace through Deuces perspective with D also providing narration. I would have preferred the story through Aces perspective as the manga is about him and it would be interesting to dive deeper into his thoughts and feelings. Besides that its decent but generic stuff utilising familiar one piece tropes to keep things very safe. The art is the standout feature of the manga theres a great intensity to the character designs and the manga takes full advantage of the fanservice by showing as many as characters as possible. Jinbe Rayleigh Shanks etc. Its interesting to see these characters from a different artistic perspective. The pacing is really quick which can be awkward as we go from ace meeting Deuce to suddenly ace having a full crew and meeting a yonko. On the other hand this is interesting due to the description of Ace as a raging fire It fits him very well he is literally fire through the devil fruit he consumed but it also applies to his personality. The mangas quick pacing can be attributed to this description aswell Ace being a raging fire that races onwards it doesnt stop to take a breath and slow down. The fire keeps on raging. And thats Ace he lived a short life his fire raged and then it was snuffed out. He wished to live life with no regrets doing whatever he wanted to do. It also points to one of Aces flaws as a character its what led to his capture and what led to his death. I think its some really great symbolism. The next few chapters do a good job delving deeper into Aces introduction to Whitebeard and the whitebeard pirates and adding greater context to Aces goal of making Whitebeard the next pirate king. We do switch focus from Deuce to Ace so my earlier complaint can be ignored. Ace isnt like Luffy or many other pirates who seek to become the pirate king. Ace is actually similar to Whitebeard hes more interested in family and his relationships with the people around him. Although Ace set out to sea with the goal of being the king like Luffy he didnt have the same determination. Ace had a chip on his shoulder living under the shadow of his father the pirate king. So he chose the most crazy goal possible becoming the pirate king. But thats not what he really wanted to become. In this manga we get to see how Roger haunts Ace and guides his journey until he meets whitebeard and finally finds what he was searching for. Ace needed clarity on the question Was it a good thing i was born and he needed to escape from under Rogers shadow and find a purpose this chronicles that journey in a brief but effective way.
