Meguru is a simple girl from an island who just moved to the city. After a few unexpected circumstances a hedgehog asks her to transform into a magical girl and fight bad guys who take peoples happiness away for their evil plans. That is the day she becomes a Twin Angel. Together with her new friend Sumire she goes to save people from becoming sad and fights humanlike people in ants costumes. Thats the basis of the show. Twin Angel Break doesnt just have a simple story the entire show is made incredibly simple leaving little room to larger teams beyond friendship. The characters surrounding Meguru during her daily life are not that interesting that is simply because they all just play the role of bringing in some comedic moments throughout the show. From her sheepjacket wearing friend who says paa to the girl who is actually a boy but theres never a scene where it plays a role and she even has a bit of a cleavage during the beach episode so I dont know why they thought itd be important unless youd find it hilarious for the love letter episode which I dont and the girl who claims to predict the future theres not much to say about them. When Sumire refused to be a Twin Angel at the start she changed her mind immediately when offered food there was literally no smaller episode focused theme throughout the show. The only time we get anything other than Friendship is important is after a certain incident with the twins which was handled very well in my opinion and even that was mainly about friendship. What I mean by that is that a show like Shugo Chara would always make us see someone have problems get deep into it and then well be hit with the Never give up beam by Amu. While thats pretty simple as well we get some level of depth of the problems of each person she interacts with. Twin Angel Break completely misses that because the only problem the bad guys really cause is during 1 episode where they make pet owners fight over who has the best pet and obviously when they bring out the big bad guy. Twin Angel Break is so focused on what needs to be done storywise that Meguru is the only character with some level of detail Sumire has some too but... I mean just watch the show she doesnt really change after becoming friends with Meguru and so the show becomes very flat. Meguru isnt just the protagonist shes the one who carries the entire discourse the themes and the story at once. Twin Angel Break fails to be anything beyond alright because it refuses to take its time to be good and have important topics or discussions that might be attributed to the small amount of episodes compared to other magical girl shows but weve had slice of life shows who did more in that time and Shugo Chara did a LOT more in that amount of time while also showing off important background information Sailor Moon did it from the very first episode on as well. That being said I liked the show a lot. I liked Meguru a lot I liked the outfits and the music a lot and I think you should at least try to watch the show if you dont know what to watch right now. In the end Twin Angel Break while not horrible is nothing more than a show you can binge through enjoy for a while and then mostly forget about it. Its not bad but its certainly not very good. Thank you for reading and I hope you enjoy the show more than I did.
