Overview Yuuki Yuuna wa Yuusha de Aru Churutto is a light hearted noncanon spinoff series with chibi artstyle that seemingly every series out there gets these days. Most of these dont have much effort put into by the creators often just being additional low cost bonus content for the fans of the series. This still applies to Churutto but it actually does a lot of things right to make it one of the best series of this type out there in my opinion. Plot Despite it having a total runtime of about 18 minutes split between 12 episodes it does have a loose plot tying all the episodes together. The hero club from the main series expanded into containing heroes and mikos from previous generations and they decided to make their own hero club udon. Its not much but having a plot point connect all the episodes make them feel less random and actually giving the series a purpose. Its not really completely random since udon was a rather big part of one of the entries to the series. The main thing about chibi series like this are the jokes since its also supposed to be comedy... and comedy is subjective but I had a great time watching it personally. That being said I would recommend experiencing every other entry in the YuYuYu series before this to really get to know all the characters since character interactions are mostly what this show is about. Characters There are more characters than minutes of runtime but if youre a fan of the series you should know and recognize most of them and know their personalities. The series has some really good established cast so there isnt much development to be had but its a good thing to just turn your brain off and enjoy your favourites interacting with each others in a way that would not be possible in any of the main series entries. Animation and artstyle The artstyle is truly what makes this one stand out over most of the other short series. It is painfully cute all characters just look adorable. Yuuki Yuuna wa Yuusha de Aru is a very dramatic and emotional series so having an eye candy light hearted shorts spinoff benefits it greatly. The animation is not anything groundbreaking but it doesnt have to be. Its simple but not lazy and it just works. Conclusion This review is pointless because it took more time to write than to watch the entire thing and its so short that its not really a commitment to watch it for yourself instead of reading a review. I found it to be rather special in a sea of mediocrity surrounding it so I just wanted to get my thoughts out somewhere because I like it so much. If youre a fan of YuYuYu give it a try.
