Kowloon Generic Romance was written by Jun Mayuzuki. Actually this is my first manga review. Before reading this manga I was a little uninspired about mangas. Its not like I havent read any manga before and also have a feeling I am an anime guy not for manga. But Kowloon Generic Romance changed my perspective on manga. First of all its covers and character design specifically Reiko Kujirai caught my attention. And I started to read. Because I thought it would be a slowpaced peaceful slice of life. As I read more more subgenres or tags are added. Around 40/50 chapters I got history mystery memory loss etc. I wasnt expecting this but what surprised me most was the History of Kowloon City I knew that Kowloon is in Hong Kong but I am not aware of the whole thing. So I should say something about the Kowloons history as I mentioned it. I am keeping it simple for the reader and the story of this manga. Kowloon was previously called Kowloon Walled City. It was departed from the world for a long time for the changing hands of rulers. Because of that they hadnt developed much. This was also known as lawlessness but also had a warmer side which never got a chance to develop. In 1993 this whole area was demolished and taken by Hong Kong named New Kowloon City. Now this city is famous for flowers goldfish and her traditional markets. I simplified the history if you guys want to know more about the history of Kowloon Walled Cityhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KowloonWalledCity New Kowloon Cityhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NewKowloon source: Wikipedia. There is a protagonist but the Kowloon Generic Romance is based on Her Kowloon. Fact: The Protagonist Reiko Kujirai and Kowloon City are both pronounced as Her. AnalogyKowloon Generic Romance story is about 23 years after the demolition of the original Kowloon. In the manga there is a concept like a duplicate of an original one. Most of them in Kowloon live their lives without knowing about that. Now that most of them are duplicates how did they get it? At some point when it reveals Reikos original self I realize most of them are duplicates. Its the interesting POV of the manga. The protagonist is living a life that is not even hers just like New Kowloon. New Kowloon which drifted from her originality had no memories of her original. New cultures and traditions are spreading. People are interpreting and accepting her as a real one. But her existence doesnt exist outside of her very boundary. The same kind of dilemma happened for Reiko. The analogy in this manga is so significant. Reiko mirrors the New Kowloon duplicates reflecting the upcoming culture tradition and lifestyle but original like Kudou and Tao keep reminding their old culture food and overall their old Kowloon where they lived. StoryKowloon Generic Romance starts with a real chill vibe. The protagonist Reiko Kujirai was sitting on the balcony drinking in Kowloon GR she considers watermelon a drink watermelon with a cigarette and also enjoying the night sky. She was a little hazy and her eyesight was getting blurry. She leads a simple life. She works comes home and sleeps. Her love interest is Kodou her colleague sometimes she goes out with him for lich or dinner. Days are passing by she is figuring out about her and getting close too. But one day she found out he loved somebody. And when she checks the photo she realizes that the person is herself. She also said that they were married. But she has no memory of this at all. She couldnt comprehend this and in a few days she started to copy her. Kodou realized this and yelled at her for her foolishness. After this point what happened to Reiko was the development of her character. 420https://cm.blazefast.co/fb/a5/fba5dd1bc89f3bef00e9d65c43cc8be0.jpg She understands and starts to change things according to her own preferences. She is trying different clothes perfumes and food tastes. Before she was doing or eating what Kodou liked about her original self. She is insecure and afraid still trying to live and have her own life not being just a shadow of her original self. Unlike her original self she is having thoughts of leaving this city. Throughout the story a theory like Absolute Self. What is Absolute Self? How can it be possible? In my opinion Reiko is the perfect example of an absolute self. She has no past the present is also unclear and she lives in a city where everyone is living their original life. There she is trying and living as a new person. Making a whole new story where she is the protagonist not any original or duplicate self. Secondly the dialogues are well written. It makes you feel nostalgic. Their story environment art aesthetic and overall it leaves a cold feeling but still enjoyable. 128077127995The perceptions of the author really magnificent. She Jun Mayuzuki expresses the Kowloon by the story of Reiko. And both are her. 128078127995 My only complaint about this manga is huge dialogues and explanations. I think this should be a light novel or novel will be a perfect fit. If this was in alight novel then the expression and there would be quite easy to squeeze out the main taste. I actually like this manga and highly recommend to you guys to read Kowloon Generic Romances and it is the best way.
