Hi you may remember me from the time I wrote a review about how I didnt like a manga a lot of people seem to quite like. Anyways I read a manga from the same author and it was somehow a lot better despite the fact that Ohtaka was definitely far less experienced when writing it. I am not sorry for how much Magi will come up. Sumomomo Momomo is a perfect example of the benefits of knowing what your series is and not trying to punch above that. This series is largely free from many of the issues found in Ohtakas followup series Magi although it isnt without faults. The main point in Momomos favor is its far smaller scale than what Magi eventually became. I can safely say Momomo is about the world of martial arts intruding into the life of one Koushi Inuzuka for the entirety of the run and the story never strays from this basic idea even as events intensify. In addition it also gets far better as it goes along whereas Magi just kept getting worse and worse. Another positive quality of this manga for me was a good portion of the cast. Koushi is a fun assholeish protagonist who you still want to see succeed and the hyperactive Momoko was really cute and had quite a bit of jokes that landed for me. This also carries over to the many antagonists and how damn good of a job this manga does at making you want to see them get beaten to a pulp I can always appreciate that. However some of the content hasnt exactly aged well particularly some elements of Shintarou Inoues character I could definitely see some readers taking offense to and some of the more fanservicey stuff with Sanae another character I quite liked. In addition some of the fight composition can be sloppy at times likely due to inexperience one of the main times I noticed this was during the final battle as the fight really ramped up. But this problem doesnt necessarily go away even as Ohtakas artwork improves stylistically. Likewise the problem Magi had with several designs looking almost the exact same is kind of foreshadowed here with a few of the main characters namely Tenka and Hanzo depending on how theyre drawn at times. Considering I absolutely hated another series by this author Im surprised I even decided to read something else she wrote but I ended up having a fun time with it so Im glad I did. Id overall say this series is nothing more than pretty alright but given its rather short length of 12 volumes Id say giving it a read couldnt hurt. Its definitely more worth it than Ohtakas followup series thats for sure. 220https://comicvine.gamespot.com/a/uploads/scalelarge/11/110017/2214194www.jpg
