What is Sci Fi Harry? This is my first anime review and will be subject to edits so bear with me. I will try to make a very general discourse starting with a brief spoiler of the first episode and later my impressions on the overall story without spoiling too much of this strange anime. Created by APPP studios who have created cult classics such as Golden Boy and 90s version of Jojos Bizarre adventure OVA no wonder this show has a supernatural flair and yet it still creates the dark vibe of despair the sepia tones of what the 2000s shows were back in the day. We do not know who Harry is or where he came from because in my understanding he exists. 1st EP impression/ Spoilers Set in an unnamed suburban city in America we come to the story of two people namely Harry and Catherine and both attend the same school. Harry is a loner and keeps to himself while Catherine is a bright young woman who takes care of her brother Elliot at home and has a boyfriend named John who is the MVP in their college basketball team which Harry plays in. 220https://i.ur.com/RKs2UkA.png Harry gets bullied by the same team mates he plays with John comes to his rescue as a friend and pushes the guys off him resulting in the bad blood. Catherine seeing Harrys bruises after school took a kindness to Harry something that he has never experienced before and during the basketball game when she told him to shoot the ball. While Harry is at home he starts to have precognitive dreams of Catherine being attacked by the same gang the bullied him in an undisclosed location. This is when Harry starts exhibiting a psychic reaction to her voice. That night Catherine goes out on a date with John in a lovers rendezvous by the water their relationship turns sour with having John step out for a breather. Unexpectedly someone gets in the car with Catherine and abducts her at knife point. The assailants try to assault her in an undisclosed location where Catherine notices that they played in the same team as John. Harry shows up unexpectedly surprising the gang. A fight ensues with Harry being beat up resulting with him having a mental breakdown and psychic reaction to what was happening then a large explosion erupts with a bunch of cargo containers flying up in the air nearby spooking the assailants to flee. This scene cuts. John finds out later that Catherine is safe while Harry is at Catherines home after the whole ordeal. Elliot is watching Myscylus Mick a psychic show on television where the host is asking people to bend spoons. Harry obliges to take part with Elliot and then bends the spoon. Elliot asks to do the psychic thing again but the spoon snaps in half. Catherine is enthralled that Harry has psychic powers. Harry is elated by her encouragement. Several murders of people having their neck snapped off start showing up around the city with a detective on the case to solve them. Story You enter Harrys downward spiral into the unknown with the people close to him being alienated and the external forces who are after his power have already entered the final stage of their nefarious goals. An organization later inserts themselves after the mass killing during a tv show where Harry becomes the number one suspect. People who were in the knowing are disappearing one by one and a conspiracy is happening where an unknown faction in the shadows are pulling strings from the detective side of the story. Sci Fi Harry is the embodiment of self despair even when we have the power to change the outcome we can experience the defeat that we cannot do anything leaving you naked and afraid. And once Harry wakes up from his delusional safety net he is confronted with the reality of true power despair and the battle for ones identity. The ending however will leave you asking if there was more to this that what you would have hoped Conclusion I would say this is a darker version of Mob Psycho 100 without the cool power scaling and where everyone comes out unscathed. A deep look with a man without an identity within society. What defines a soul of a person? Is he molded by external forces from birth? a special power? or a simple show of kindness on a very bad day? You decide. 6.5/10
