This is my first review I dont know what Im doing 220https://i.pin.com/originals/20/a2/67/20a26780ecdcc5ec491072123145d70e.gif Aachi Ssipak is an adultthemed South Korean movie released in 2006. The basic backstory is that in the future poop has become the only source of energy. All citizens have microchips installed in their anus which monitors how often they poop and everyone is awarded 1 JuicyBar for each log they drop. The JuicyBars are extremely addictive and so a black market of crime and gang violence has formed around trying to amass the JuicyBars for profit. The most prevalent gang is known as the Diaper Gang which is comprised of little blue mutant freaks who steal JuicyBars with their overwhelming numbers. Several years after its original release it was rewritten and dubbed for English speaking audiences. I normally watch subs but on a bit of a whim I decided to watch the dub and Im glad I did. This review will be based on the dubbed version since the subbed version is quite a different experience. I will be comparing the two versions to each other but keep in mind I only skimmed through the sub so take anything I say about it with a small grain of salt Why is it such a different experience? Well to start although the show follows the same general plot between both versions the commentary and interactions in the sub are extremely unserious. Its kind of like a less extreme version of the infamous Ghost Storieshttps://anilist.co/anime/1281/GhostStories/. One example of the different commentary between the versions: minor spoiler These sorts of jokes happen throughout the entire movie and while they dont all hit I did find myself laughing at just how stupid some of them were. Whether you prefer the more serious its still really not very serious tone of the original or the dumb comedy of the dub is very dependent on the viewer but for me personally I think the jokes were the only thing keeping certain segments of the movie entertaining at all. The other main difference between the two versions was the soundtrack. The original version has a somewhat more traditional soundtrack for what you might expect in a movie like this using a variety of genres like rock or triphop for different scenes. On the other hand the dub uses almost exclusively heavy electronic and dubstep songs example herehttps://www..com/watch?v=qJ1EMfLvRQ0. And man even though its kinda corny exaggerated and over the top the action scenes genuinely kick ass when theres bass drops going on in the background. One thing I noticed about both soundtracks is that its very all or nothing theres little to no background music in any of the nonaction or montage scenes. I think the lack of music makes those scenes feel a bit slower and more empty but its not the end of the world. The last difference between the versions worth mentioning is that the English version had some small segments cut with the overall runtime being about 4 minutes shorter. Also I dont know if this is just because of the site I watched it on but the original was in a lower quality 4:3 ratio while the dub was 1080p at a 16:9 ratio So now that were done looking at the differences between versions how was the rest of the movie? ANIMATION: THE ACTION SCENES HAVE NO BUSINESS GOING AS HARD AS THEY DO They were the highlight of the whole show in my opinion. There were some incredibly creative visuals which made fantastic use of the animation medium and paired with the thumping soundtrack of the dub it made for some fantastic moments. If you read this review and end up deciding this movie isnt something you want to fully watch I would highly recommend watching just the first 5 minutes of the dub. 220https://64.media.tumblr.com/e14b4f336019d83878e68bf37812cfb3/tumblrinlinep7o50bDKzK1rvg9kl400.gif Outside of the action scenes the animation was really just okay. I wouldnt call it bad at all especially for 2006 but theres only a handful scenes that really shine. Its also worth noting that if youre watching the dub the lipsyncing of the characters is comically off. It was a bit jarring at first but I got used to it eventually. PLOT: While I already went over the backstory of the world at the start of this review the actual plot is that two turd burglars Aachi Ssipak end up working together with a girl who receives hundreds or thousands of JuicyPops per poop instead of the regular 1. Because of this they end up being hunted down by the Police Force the Diaper Gang as well as another smaller gang. Because the dub was mostly just centered around comedy and certain scenes including the introduction to the story why would they cut that?? were removed it was occasionally hard to tell the reasons behind individual characters actions. That being said the overarching plot was quite easy to follow despite being more complex than you might expect for a show about poop. Overall Id say the plot was just okay. It gets the point across and really focuses a lot more on just being dumb fun as opposed to any greater character or story building. For this reason I wont be talking about any particular characters either none of them were very deep beyond their assigned role. If you do want a version with a bit of a deeper plot and characters maybe watch the sub instead. CONCLUSION Overall this movie is relatively unknown and will probably remain that way for some time. The action scenes really carried the movie for me with the parts in between feeling a bit lacking. I was also pleasantly surprised by the humorous commentary. It reminded me a lot of MXC Most Extreme Challenge so if youve watched that show or other somewhat parodytype works like it youll probably enjoy the Dub version of this movie. I definitely wouldnt recommend Aachi Ssipak to everyone but at the end of the day I enjoyed my time with it as a unique entry on this site that doesnt have much like it. 220https://pa1.aminoapps.com/6828/6264d09d08436eda9ad65ce55e71d85d564297de00.gif If you want to watch the ironic humour of a show like Ghost Stories combined with the action and stylizing of works like Dead Leaveshttps://anilist.co/anime/974/DeadLeaves/ or MFKZhttps://anilist.co/anime/100356/MFKZ/ then give this one a go.
