For quite a while now one of my favorite genres when it comes to video games even with tiny little hints of it in other genres would be spectacle action games: games that play about as you would expect from any other game in the genre but also making sure to wow and amaze you making you look all the more badass while slaying the many foes before you. One of the most popular series that can be found in this genre would be with Bayonetta a series that has been going ever since 2009 and showcasing the titular Bayonetta kicking a ton of ass in the most overthetop and ridiculous ways possible and I personally cannot get enough of it because not only is it a sight to watch but it also feels great to play it yourself. And hey Im definitely not the only one who feels that because the series has been pretty successful ever since its debut gaining enough notoriety to earn itself its own anime film just four years after the original games release known as Bayonetta: Bloody Fate. I had first watched this film back in 2022 specifically as a means to celebrate the release of the third game in the series Bayonetta 3 coming out at that point and I do remember liking it a lot. There were some issues that I could point out here or there but it was pretty much what I expected out of a Bayonetta film so I couldnt complain all too much. It has been a while since I initially watched it though so I figured I would give it another shot and yeah Id say it still holds up really well. It definitely isnt perfect by any means and those who havent played the games probably wouldnt know what the fuck was going on most of the time but it explains just enough to where you could get behind it on a surface level and again it gives fans everything they could want out of a Bayonetta film and thats all I could ever ask for. The story is pretty much a retreading of the original games plot. now with extra scenes setpieces and details added in along the way and while it isnt perfect it does the job of being simple and entertaining enough to not be boring the characters are all the same from the original game so if you liked or hated them in that game then you are most likely gonna feel the same way here which is good because I dont hate a single one of these characters and they are all still enjoyable here the voice acting is pretty good with most of the VAs from the game reprising their role and even for the replacement VAs they still manage to do a good job as well but there are one or two voices that are a little too stupid for me to get behind the animation is pretty good having plenty of fastpaced and exciting movement all throughout although there are points where it can get lazy with some errors popping up here or there and the action is appropriately incredible to witness being brutal overthetop and erotic most of the time with the main heroine driving all of that home in the best way possible. If there is one thing I do have to complain about though it really would have to be with the story. Like I mentioned before it basically recaps the events of the original game and while that in itself I dont have a problem with its the way that it is handled here that makes it feel kinda... meh. The film is a little over 1 hour and 25 minutes long which is enough time for them to go over many of the important and main parts of the plot but a lot of it does feel left out for the sake of just getting a move on with the action. I am well aware that Bayonetta has never prioritized story over the action and spectacle which I am completely fine with but you can excuse that more easily for a video game as I am primarily here just to have a good time. For a movie on the other hand I can mostly excuse it but for those who arent fans of Bayonetta or for those who just need a refresher on what happened in the original game in a different way you will get a basic understanding of what was going on but not much more then that. Overall despite its slight story issues and some animation errors here or there this still manages to be a fast overthetop and fun movie that fans of the Bayonetta series would be able to love all the same and for those who arent into Bayonetta or just wanting to get into the series while this may not be the first thing I would recommend you check it it is still a good way of getting people familiarized with the world and characters. I would recommend it for big fans of Bayonetta as well as those who just love films that arent afraid to get ridiculous because if there is one word I can describe this series with as a whole it would be ridiculous and I love it for that. With all that out of the way though... I cant think of a joke to end off this review with........ fuck. Uh go play Bayonetta and tell them Mega sent you or else I will do nothing because I dont know you and I most likely never will.
