One of the best final arcs in Shonen. It was done much better in the manga but the voice works despite Toei replacing 98 of the original cast animation and stakes made this a very memorable watch. The culmination of the entire original run of Kinnikuman. A forgotten goofy buffoon sent to Earth because of his foolish father slowly developed to become the GOAT of chojin wrestling over the course of 300+ chapters. After defeating several deadly foes focuses on ruling the world: Robin Mask Warsman Satan Through empowering Buffalo mans body Akuma Shogun Goldman and Neptune Man/Big The Budo Kinnikuman earned the respect of the world and the undying loyalty of his fellow justice chojin. In Sugurus coronation to become King Kinniku 100 gods allowed him to ascend to the title but the last 5 refused using the incident in the hospital where Kinnikuman was born to question Sugurus worthiness. 5 Planet Kinniku members empowered by those 5 evil gods would challenge Kinnikumans worthiness and impose a tournament for the throne. The reason why is because they were afraid of Kinnikumans inevitable transcendence to surpass all the gods themselves in power. This arc encapsulates all what makes the Kinnikuman franchise so special. Sacrifice Gags Hardship Competition Passion and Friendship Another thing that makes this arc so special is the stakes. Kinnikuman would fight in the tournament with his biggest friends/rivals/enemies. Due to the removal of Kinnikumans inner burning strength he loses a lot of his overpowered strength and is forced to rely on his friends and quick thinking to win. A lot of iconic battles would occur where the loyalty and skills of the chojin are tested. Very brutal matches that leave some dead unfortunately not permanent cause this is an 80s battle shonen. Every major character is facing their own drama and even the side characters have major influence in the story. The 5 groups in the tournament have very interesting progression similar to Kinnikuman despite only really appearing in this arc. I have to give my hats off to Toei cause despite them cutting important scenes and altering plot points on occasion like in the previous Kinnikuman anime they stopped bloating the pacing with pointless gags to increase watch time for syndication purposes and switched animation teams to properly convey the most heartwrenching scenes in all of Kinnikuman. The single greatest example being Robin Masks sacrifice. The team who worked on Hokuto no Ken did wonders for this moment. 8/10 arc 9/10 in the manga. Yudetamago and Toei outdid themselves. Nuff said.
