This review will spoil the type of horror manga this is Though it becomes rapidly obvious very quickly oh yeah I do also sort of end up spoiling who dies so... ... SPOILERS 440https://i.ur.com/ZZFji3R.png This is another manga by Rensuke Oshikirihttps://anilist.co/staff/108877/RensukeOshikiri centered around a tragedy. Whereas Misu Misouhttps://anilist.co/manga/75721/MisuMisou/ centered around humans being awful to other human beings Sayuri... is also centered around that but theres a certain supernatural spin to it. An ordinary family moves into a house. The father is quite proud for hes always wanted to obtain a house of his own for his family. But little did he know the house had a bit of a history... 440https://i.ur.com/3V5ZIRT.png Which of course becomes illuminated more and more following the ruin of the family. To be honest Im actually quite fond of the flow of this manga. One by one the members of the family get picked off... But in my head I pondered what route this manga could possibly take if almost the entire family was taken out. Considering how quickly they were dropping. 440https://i.ur.com/SdxNj9r.png At the same time though I was also initially a bit worried. The early deaths were really sudden and felt like they had barely any build up at all. This is somewhat made up for since we at least get an idea of how horrible one of the early deaths is later. Like for instance the father just somehow dies in his sleep right in the first chapter. 440https://i.ur.com/mVn7H6J.png Oh he died? But... why though? Oh were just moving onto the next chapter huh... But when the truth about the thing lurking in the house came to light my doubts were assuaged as the reason why the family members started to die so quickly and with little lead up suddenly made sense. Because you know if I were a ghost who got Id also kind of be pissed if a perfectly normal and happy family just suddenly barged into my former family home I was haunting. 440https://i.ur.com/oZlaz8M.png I can really get behind a haunted house series where the ghost isnt fucking around. She doesnt try and give them a warning or make the walls bleed or anything she just starts killing and trying to drive them into insanity. And she is ruthlessly vindictive about it too. One of the first times we actually see Sayuri shes practically laughing her head off. 440https://i.ur.com/Icu5CRn.png But it wasnt just the evil ghost with an understandable and clear motive that won me all the way over. It was how the ghost was dealt with in the end. 440https://i.ur.com/Ckd1r8b.png The grandmother of the family who is completely senile prior to the absolute ruin of the family suddenly wakes up once her grandson is now alone and at the mercy of this horrible specter. And she rallies with her grandson to do... what exactly? 440https://i.ur.com/bzWHvE9.png To tell this murderer ghost to go fuck herself. Conclusion When I first found this manga I initially kind of just dismissed it. 440https://i.ur.com/Kft4hFc.png I read the first couple of chapters and figured it was just gonna be your typical haunted house sort of deal. But then I ended up reading Misou Misou and was quite frankly a bit taken back with how far the author was willing to go with the gore of that series... 440https://i.ur.com/DS6dMjh.png ...so I of course ended up returning to read the rest of this afterward and then was pleasantly surprised when the ending was The idea of defeating the ghost by essentially telling her to just go fuck off by taunting her with the fact that she would never be alive again was absolutely great. The grandmother actually just outright skipping over the part where they try to get an exorcist to come and help but it ends up completely failing was also absolutely great. 440https://i.ur.com/hqNB7Pn.png My main gripes about this manga again is mostly the speed of which the deaths are doled out and also theres a female student character who just conveniently happens to be a medium and she doesnt really do much. Though I suppose the manga would be a lot grimmer for Norio if she wasnt there. Eh. 440https://i.ur.com/fGC7E4W.png Theres tons and tons of horror stuff where like a family moves into a new house and oh no its haunted Or theres some other dark secret to the house that the family of course had no idea about when they bought it. But you know despite how much of that there is in the horror sphere Im struggling to come up with an example of more than one that I actually really like The ORIGINAL Amityville Horror. https://i.ur.com/7H539E6.png Oh my god. How embarrassing... My point is this was a good one of those. And thus I give Sayuri a 7 out of 10 500https://i.ur.com/gZ1tvcK.png
