Hiroshi Watanabe

He is an animator and director best known for his work on the Minky Momo series in the 80s and the Slayers OVAs in the 90s. Watanabe became determined to join the animation business when he first saw Uchuu Senkan Yamato during his high school time. He applied for Studio Live and after an interview with founder Ashida Toyoo where he showed independetly drawn material on a 8mm film he was able to join. He made his debut as inbetweener on Manga Nihon Emaki and became a key animator on Cyborg 009 but it was his work as animation director on the Minky Momo series that brought him recognition and he was asked to draw illustrations of Momo. Subsequently he became the character designer for the later OVAs. In 1986 he made his debut as director on Kyoushoku Soukou Guyver. Following some more work as animator he switched to directing in the beginning of the 90s. He is nowadays affiliated with Studio Deen where he directs many series and moreover provides scenario ideas.
