Fujiyama retired from the entertainment world soon after the end of Sasurai no Taiyous broadcast. Her label desperately tried to persuade her but Fujiyama did not respond. After that she never appeared in any other media and her whereabouts were unknown. Wandering Sun which was not very popular when it first aired gradually gained popularity as it was repeatedly rebroadcast from the 1970s to the 1980s. Fujiyama was called a legendary phantom singer and gained a certain degree of name recognition yet never returned as a singer. In 2008 more than 30 years after she left the entertainment world she made a comeback as a singer with the insert song WE SHALL OVERCOME in the documentary film Until we die directed by her brother Kenichiro Fujiyama.
