Born in Cheongsong in 1954 he moved to Busan in 1962. In 1976 he studied under Kang SuCheol and eventually debuted in 1976 with Neoguri Hyeongnim Raccoon Brother. For two years he was the bass player for an unknown band at a nightclub. He studied martial arts manhwa under Lee JaeHak and in 1986 started producing martial arts manhwa in earnest with the help of Hwang Jae . In 1989 he temporarily suspended his martial arts manhwa career and focused on ancient Western mythology but returned to martial arts in 1993.
