Christian Bale is an English actor known for his versatility and intensive method acting and has received many awards including an Academy Award and two Golden Globe Awards as well as being featured on the Time 100 list in 2011.
He had his first starring role at age 13 in Steven Spielbergs war film Empire of the Sun in 1987. Following a decade of leading and supporting roles including in Little Women and Pocahontas. In 2000 he gained wider recognition for portraying serial killer Patrick Bateman in American Psycho. He lost 29 kg 63 lb for his role in the psychological thriller The Machinist and then gained 45 kg 100 lb in six months to star as Batman in Christopher Nolans film Batman Begins a role he reprised in the sequels The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises.
